Red Bull registered a dominant year in 2023 as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won 21 of the 22 Grand Prix, so here are every Formula 1 team’s first victories in the series.
Only three of the current 10 teams entered the 2024 season still yet to win their first races. Ferrari led the table for Grand Prix wins with 244 to the Italian marquee’s name as an ever-present of the series. They sat clear of McLaren, who took second place with 183 wins then.
The dominance Perez and mainly Verstappen delivered with Red Bull in 2023 took the team from Milton Keynes to within one race win of Williams’ 114. Mercedes’ successes from 2014 to 2021 also catapulted the Silver Arrows up the charts with their 125 Grand Prix wins then.

So, with the 2023 season firmly in the pages of Formula 1’s history and Verstappen a three-time champion, here are the first race wins of each F1 team set to contest the 2024 season.
Alpine’s first F1 win: 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix with Esteban Ocon
First-corner carnage helped to see Esteban Ocon hand Alpine their first win in F1 under their current name at the 2021 Hungarian GP. The Enstone-based squad have also won 35 races as Renault, as well as the drivers’ and constructors’ championship titles in 2005 and in 2006.
Ocon kept his nose clean into the first corner at the 2021 Hungarian GP when Valtteri Bottas misjudged his breaking point. The Finn left it too late to brake in the damp conditions before spearing Lando Norris into Verstappen. Bottas even continued into Turn 1 and clouted Perez.
The carnage removed most of the front-running drivers from contention as Ocon fended off Sebastian Vettel. He also fended off Lewis Hamilton in the final laps after Fernando Alonso – who won Renault their drivers’ titles – kept the Briton behind to help his teammate’s hopes.
Aston Martin’s first F1 win: Still loading…
An Aston Martin car first appeared on a Formula 1 grid in 1959 and 1960 before returning as a manufacturer in 2021. The British brand took over the Racing Point team, whose history in Formula 1 dates back to 1991 through Force India, Spyker, Midland and – originally – Jordan.
But while Aston Martin have five combined seasons under their belt, the team are still yet to win an F1 race. The Silverstone-based team have had success under their previous names, though. Jordan won four races, starting with the 1998 Belgian GP, and Racing Point won one.
Ferrari’s first F1 win: 1951 British Grand Prix with Jose Froilan Gonzalez
Ferrari are the only Formula 1 team to contest each season of the world championship since it started in 1950. But the Maranello natives had to wait until the 1951 British GP to secure a race win. Jose Frolian Gonzalez won the event from his and the Scuderia’s first pole position.
Gonzalez crossed the finish line a whopping 51 seconds ahead of second-place runner Juan Manuel Fangio driving for Alfa Romeo. The Ferrari driver also beat his Argentine compatriot to pole position by one second at Silverstone. But Gonzalez only won one further race in F1.
Haas’ first F1 win: Still loading…
Gene Haas handed America their first Formula 1 constructor since 1986 when he put Haas on the grid in 2016. But the USA is still waiting for the iconic Nascar team owner’s F1 entry to win their first Grand Prix. Haas are even also still waiting to finish on the podium in Formula 1.
Romain Grosjean sealed Haas their best result in Formula 1 to date with his P4 at the 2018 Austrian GP. Kevin Magnussen also handed the team their first pole position at the 2022 Sao Paulo GP. But George Russell started the Grand Prix from pole after he won the Sprint event.
McLaren’s first F1 win: 1968 Belgian Grand Prix with Bruce McLaren

Bruce McLaren raced in F1 with Cooper from 1958 through to 1965 before rocking up at the 1966 Monaco GP to debut his own car. It was a trial of love and labour but the Kiwi’s dream to win in his own machine came true at the 1968 Belgian GP when McLaren won from sixth.
Denny Hulme had pipped McLaren to line up fifth on the grid in the team’s other car. But the Kiwi came through a gruelling race with only three drivers finishing on the lead lap. McLaren have since become one of the most successful teams with eight titles, plus 12 drivers’ titles.
Mercedes’ first F1 win: 1954 French Grand Prix with Juan Manuel Fangio
Mercedes made their Formula 1 debut in 1954 after poaching Fangio away from Maserati to join their otherwise all-German line-up. It was also the Argentine who claimed their first win on his debut for the Silver Arrows at the 1954 French GP having changed teams mid-season.
Fangio also went on to win his second of five drivers’ titles in 1954. He retained the crown in 1955 driving for Mercedes before joining Ferrari. While Nico Rosberg would hand Mercedes their first modern-era win at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix after they returned to F1 in 2010.
Red Bull’s first F1 win: 2009 Chinese Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel

After winning with Toro Rosso in 2008, Vettel moved from the junior squad to Red Bull in the 2009 F1 season. He would even gift the Milton Keynes squad their first win in F1 with a one-two result at that season’s Chinese GP. Vettel edged teammate Mark Webber by 11 seconds.
Vettel and Red Bull were dominant at the 2009 Chinese GP to thrash Brawn GP with Jenson Button. The would-be 2009 F1 champion finished that event 45 seconds behind the German for third place. Rubens Barrichello came home P4 in the other Brawn GP car a minute back.
Sauber’s first F1 win: 2008 Canadian Grand Prix with Robert Kubica
Sauber sold the naming rights of their team to Alfa Romeo between 2019 and 2023. But the Hinwil, Switzerland-based team have routes in Formula 1 that date back to 1993. They even ran as BMW Sauber between 2006 and 2010 as a works entry for the German manufacturer.
It was also during Sauber’s time as BMW’s factory Formula 1 team that they won their first – and so far only – F1 race. Robert Kubica returned to the Canadian GP in 2008 just 12 months after a horrific high-speed crash and relished Hamilton hitting Kimi Raikkonen in the pit lane.
Visa Cash App RB’s first F1 win: Still loading…
The parent Red Bull GmbH company renamed their junior team once again before the 2024 season. Out went the name AlphaTauri after four seasons as the Faenza natives became Visa Cash App RB. Now, the team will hope to match their victories as AlphaTauri and Toro Rosso.
AlphaTauri matched what they had achieved as Toro Rosso in 2008 as Pierre Gasly took full advantage of Hamilton earning a penalty for entering the pit lane whilst it was closed at the 2020 Italian GP. His victory at Monza was also Gasly’s maiden race win as a Formula 1 driver.
Gasly withstood the threat of Carlos Sainz driving for McLaren to win by only 0.415 seconds at Monza. The Frenchman came through from P10 on the grid after pitting the moment that Magnussen had pulled up by the pit entrance, ultimately making the FIA close the pit lane.
It marked AlphaTauri’s first win under that identity but the Faenza outfit also won the 2008 Italian GP with Vettel whilst they were called Toro Rosso. The German took a legendary pole position amid torrential rain before going on to be the at-the-time youngest F1 race winner.
Williams’ first F1 win: 1979 British Grand Prix with Clay Regazzoni
Frank Williams originally ran customer cars in Formula 1 but founded his own team from the 1977 season. Alan Jones was also the Williams team’s only driver across their first two years. But Clay Regazzoni joined them in 1979 and he secured Williams their first win in Formula 1.
Williams even won their first F1 race on home soil at the 1979 British GP as Regazzoni edged Renault’s Rene Arnoux by 24 seconds. He charged into the lead from the start thanks to the ground-effect FW07 before battling with Jones, who later retired due to a water pump issue.
