Aston Martin could be about to replace Andy Cowell as team principal just 10 months after he took the role over from Mike Krack.
There has been no official confirmation from the Silverstone-based outfit of his departure, but multiple reports suggest that he could be on his way out.
Cowell was a renowned Mercedes engine guru before making the move to Aston Martin back in October 2024.
The team lies eighth in the constructors’ championship with two races to go in the current season, one behind midfield rivals Haas.
Christian Horner is ‘pushing hard’ for Aston Martin as he searches for an opening and a way back onto the Formula 1 grid.
With Cowell on the verge of leaving Aston Martin, there could be a number of interested candidates, especially with the opportunity to work with Adrian Newey heading into the 2026 F1 regulations.

Aston Martin identify Andreas Seidl as potential Andy Cowell replacement
Addressing the Cowell rumours after the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Aston Martin told F1 Oversteer, “An Aston Martin Aramco spokesperson explained the team will not be engaging in rumour or speculation. The focus is on maximising performance in the remaining races and preparing for 2026.”
Charles Leclerc has received an offer from Aston Martin for 2027, and it looks as though the team may be plotting for the future aggressively already.
Leclerc would be the perfect Aston Martin signing, given that Fernando Alonso once claimed he had more potential than Sebastian Vettel.
Aston Martin new team principal
That’s glaring praise against a four-time champion. Aston have always been ambitious with their targets, and the latest candidate for the team principal role with them has a track record of success.
According to the Italian edition of Motorsport.com, the team’s ‘most popular’ candidate is Andreas Seidl, who was part of the team that helped to turn McLaren around just after Covid-19.
Ferrari have already shortlisted Seidl, and it appears that his services are in demand. He worked as part of Audi’s new project until July 2024, with Mattia Binotto taking over from him.

What have Andreas Seidl’s other Formula 1 appointments been?
Seidl was appointed McLaren team principal back in January 2019, leading them through a difficult period.
In December 2022, he joined Sauber with immediate effect, becoming CEO of their programme, before being promoted to a role as Audi’s CEO in March 2024.
That’s why when he left just four months later in July, it was a shock as he didn’t have much of a chance to get stuck into the role.
Since then, he has been linked with numerous openings, but has not officially joined any team ahead of the new regulations. Now, he might have found his next project.
