Ferrari star Carlos Sainz is likely to have plenty of admirers as he looks to take the next step in his career in 2025 and one of the options on the table for him is Williams.

Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant are Williams’s current drivers, but both drivers are out of contract at the end of the season and could end up moving on for very different reasons.

Writing on Formula 1’s official website, journalist Lawrence Barretto shared more information on the 29-year-old’s future.

Williams are big fans of Sainz as Ferrari exit looms in 2025

While all the attention has been on Lewis Hamilton’s arrival in Italy next season, it leaves Carlos Sainz searching for a new team before this year’s campaign has even begun.

If the move had happened 12 months earlier, Sainz may have been scratching around for a seat.

However, he’s now in a powerful position with so many drivers out of contract next year and Sainz is one of the few race winners available on the market.

Alex Albon is another hot property in F1 although the opportunities for the 27-year-old are starting to run out already.

He was fantastic last season and while he isn’t again staying at Williams beyond 2024, if a better offer arrives it would be hard for him to turn it down.

Logan Sargeant is in a different position, as he clung onto a race seat after his rookie campaign.

He’s bulked up over the winter after admitting he wasn’t in good enough shape for such a gruelling campaign last year.

Williams may look to replace either driver with Sainz once he leaves Ferrari in 2025.

He would immediately elevate the team and go in as their number-one driver.

But, it would be a risk to join a team who haven’t scored a podium since George Russell’s bizarre third-place finish at Spa in 2021.

Sainz’s next step in F1 may end up being a gamble

Speaking about the two-time winner’s future, Barretto said: “Williams, though, are believed to be big admirers of Sainz. They offer the Spaniard a chance to get on a train that is building impressive momentum and is very well-resourced going forward. It’s a risk, of course, but one that could pay off well.”

Sainz has been linked with Williams in the past before he discovered he wouldn’t be driving for Ferrari in 2025.

However, he’s also on the radar of Mercedes, could end up replacing Sergio Perez at Red Bull and might be Audi’s top choice when they replace Stake in 2026.

The world is Sainz’s oyster at the moment and his performances at the beginning of this season could be what decides where he ends up next year.
