If Ferrari decide to part ways with Carlos Sainz ahead of the 2025 season, then Williams might offer the Spaniard the opportunity to stay in Formula 1.
After the renewal of Charles Leclerc’s contract, all eyes are on whether Ferrari will stick with their current partnership and hand Carlos Sainz a new deal.
Writing on the official Formula 1 website, journalist Lawrence Barretto believes there are a few options on the table for Sainz should he decide to move on.
The Formula 1 driver market is going to be the main sideshow within the sport this year given how many contracts are coming to an end.
In fact, if Red Bull and Max Verstappen continue to dominate the sport, then fans may end up turning their attention to where drivers are going to end up next year rather than the action on the track.
The majority of the seats in the top teams are now accounted for heading into next year.
Mercedes and McLaren are off the table, while Red Bull are considering Sergio Perez’s future alongside Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz occupies the next most desired seat right now that could become available next year.
And while Sainz wants to stay at Ferrari for 2025, if that’s not possible, he could now end up at Williams.
They may be looking for a new lead driver with Alex Albon’s contract coming to an end.
Or, if they’re feeling really ambitious, they could try and pair the Thai driver with the 29-year-old to form an incredibly strong partnership.

Williams a possible destination for Sainz in 2025
Speaking about the Spaniard’s future, Barretto said: “As Williams’ star continues to rise, the British team could be a potential destination for him [Carlos Sainz] too.”
Ahead of the 2024 season, it seems like Sainz would be taking a big step backwards if he ended up driving for the manufacturer who finished seventh last year.
He was the only driver who managed to win a race in 2023 outside of Red Bull with a phenomenal drive in Singapore.
That wasn’t enough to convince Ferrari to prioritise his contract over Leclerc’s which may have set alarm bells ringing.
Sainz might decide a short-term contract at Ferrari heading into 2025 would be a better option than heading to Williams or even a switch to Stake F1 before they become Audi.
He’s going to have a big choice to make about his future very soon and he’ll be hoping that it’s in his hands, rather than forced on him by Ferrari.
That will likely require a strong start to the season as well as keeping tabs on how well their rivals are performing during the opening weekends.
