Logan Sargeant appears to have taken part in his final Formula 1 race for Williams.
A huge crash during the final practice at the Dutch Grand Prix appears to have been the last straw for team principal James Vowles.
Vowles refused to rule out replacing Sargeant during the summer break when his future was very much up in the air.
It meant that with ten race weekends left in the 2024 F1 season, Logan Sargeant had to perform at a higher level despite already knowing that he was set to lose his seat next year.
Carlos Sainz has already been signed for 2025 alongside Alex Albon but it appears as though Williams have run out of patience with the American.
Taking to social media, Dutch journalist Erik van Haren provided an update on Williams’s driver line-up ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
There were several drivers linked with the seat across the paddock with everyone trying to earn their break in Formula 1 in the same way that Nyck de Vries did in 2022.
However, it appears as though – like Sargeant before him – Franco Colapinto will be promoted from the Williams academy to drive for the team for the rest of the season.

It’s a huge ask for the 21-year-old who is taking part in his first full campaign at Formula 2 level this year.
But it shows the level of frustration at the Grove-based team that a gamble on a rookie is better than persevering with a driver who has created millions of pounds worth of damage this season.

Franco Colapinto set to replace Logan Sargeant for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza
All the talk heading into the race at Monza was about the promotion of another F2 driver into Formula 1.
Kimi Antonelli is set to be announced as Mercedes’s next driver for 2025 after a rapid ascension through the junior ranks.
Antonelli will take part in FP1 in Italy but suddenly he may not be the only young driver drawing attention from the Italian crowd.
Writing on X after a dismal Dutch Grand Prix, Van Haren said: “It looks like Logan Sargeant has lost his place at Williams with immediate effect.
“Williams junior Franco Colapinto will be allowed to finish the season, multiple sources report. Nine races to go. Argentinian (21) drove for MP Motorsport in F2. Confirmation expected later today.”

Who missed out on replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams?
There were two names linked with replacing Sargeant that appear to have been overlooked or unavailable to Vowles when deciding who should step up for Williams.
Liam Lawson was linked with the Williams seat by Helmut Marko as he prepares for life in F1 in 2025.
He doesn’t know which Red Bull team he’ll drive for next year but Lawson has been promised a seat by Marko already.
However, Vowles had concerns about Lawson potentially being recalled by Red Bull should they need to replace Sergio Perez or Daniel Ricciardo.
The other name linked with Williams was Mick Schumacher who is currently racing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship.
Schumacher’s two seasons with Haas were unspectacular and he had a similar habit to Sargeant of crashing more often than his team principals would like.
For these reasons, it looks like Williams have decided to promote from within and give Colapinto his dream chance.
It’s up to the 21-year-old to prove over the next nine race weekends that he should be pushing for a permanent seat on the grid beyond 2024.
