Ted Kravitz shares what Aston Martin director told him about Adrian Newey’s F1 future

Adrian Newey’s future is producing plenty of talk in the Formula 1 paddock after deciding to pursue another challenge following nearly two decades with Red Bull Racing.

Red Bull’s recent drop-off is likely more of a coincidence than having anything to do with Adrian Newey’s departure, but people will inevitably draw conclusions.

Newey’s understanding of the ground effect and the Venturi effect gave Red Bull an immediate advantage during the current set of Formula 1 regulations.

However, as predicted by team principal Christian Horner, the grid has converged and suddenly McLaren and Mercedes are at the same level as Red Bull.

Almost every team on the grid would have immediately weighed up whether a move for Newey to guide them into the next era of F1 in 2026 was the right call.

His expertise is invaluable although Newey’s wage demands to Ferrari may have put the Italian team off.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, journalist and pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz was talking about the 65-year-old’s future.

Aston Martin appears to be Newey’s most likely destination and Kravitz spoke to technical director Dan Fallows about the designer.

Fallows wouldn’t confirm or deny whether Newey would be joining him at their Silverstone base.

He was very complimentary about Newey would and admitted he would welcome him with welcome arms if he turned up at Aston Martin.

Ted Kravitz shares what Aston Martin director Dan Fallows told him about Adrian Newey

Speaking about Aston Martin and their links with Newey, Kravitz said: “But you look at the investment that’s already happened at Aston Martin.

“You look at their factory. He’s already got Dan Fallows, who he worked with successfully at Red Bull Racing to be there with him.

“Well, I would imagine [he would have] definitely talked to Dan Fallows about what is this place that I’m coming to? What’s it like?

“And I asked Dan Fallows about this in Hungary, actually. I said, ‘Would you be happy bringing him back?’

“Fallows said, ‘Look, what you have to understand is that Adrian is a relentless, unstoppable Formula One competitor and I would be, amazed if he didn’t join another team and I would certainly welcome working with Adrian again at Aston Martin.’

“We’ve all had discussions with various people at Aston Martin about what you can offer someone like Newey and say, look, just come in, be a figurehead, sprinkle your magic dust here and there, put our people on the right paths and we think we’ve got the ability to do the rest with Fallows and the team that are already there”

Damon Hill gives his verdict on which team he thinks Adrian Newey would be perfect for

Newey’s not expected to announce which team – if he’s going to stay in Formula 1 – he’ll be joining after Red Bull until September at the earliest.

Former F1 world champion and pundit Damon Hill believes Newey is the perfect fit for Aston Martin.

Hill’s been given a bit of information about Newey’s future and believes his desire to improve a midfield team means a move to the British team makes sense.

However, the F1 paddock isn’t called the Piranha Club for no reason and until Newey is sat on a pit wall next year in another team’s colours, nothing is confirmed.
