The world of Formula 1 continues to wait with bated breath to see where Adrian Newey will be displaying his talents next.
Red Bull learned of Adrian Newey’s decision earlier in the season that he would be departing the team at the beginning of the 2025 season.
Suddenly, almost every team on the grid was calculating whether making a move for Newey was the right decision and whether they could afford the 65-year-old.
Nothing appears to be set in stone yet with an announcement not expected until September.
However, Aston Martin seem to be the favourites to hire Newey as Lawrence Stroll continues to build a team of extremely talented backroom staff ahead of the 2026 regulation changes in Formula 1.
That will please Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll considering Aston Martin are currently rooted to 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast, former world champion Damon Hill was given his view on Newey’s next steps.
Hill admitted he had heard something about Newey’s future although until an announcement is made anything could happen.

Newey was house hunting near Ferrari’s factory as they were desperate to bring in the legendary designer.
However, Hill has shared why he thinks Aston Martin is a much better fit than the Scuderia for Newey.
It’s another project where he could lift a team from the midfield to the top of the standings which has always appealed to Newey throughout his career.

Damon Hill shares why he thinks Adrian Newey is the perfect fit for Aston Martin
Talking about the prospect of Newey going to Aston Martin, Hill said: “There may also be all the other ancillary projects which might be attractive too I don’t know.
“Of the teams that were interested and had the capability so McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes I think Ferrari’s gone a bit cold.
“I think McLaren already have it up and running very well maybe it will be wrong to have someone like Adrian there I don’t know whereas Aston got headroom they’ve got the resources and they’ve also got unfulfilled potential which Adrian could be really useful for.”
Aston Martin have already poached one of Ferrari’s top men
The backroom staff Aston Martin are accumulating right now should make them a force in the paddock sooner rather than later.
Nearly every team on the grid wanted to hire Andy Cowell after his superb work within the Mercedes engine department during their domination of the sport.
Cowell will be working alongside Honda from 2026 onwards when they become Aston Martin’s exclusive power unit supplier.
It’s an exciting partnership given the work they’ve done with Red Bull over the past few years.
Aston Martin have also brought in Enrico Cardile from Ferrari in a move that has forced team principal Frederic Vasseur to temporarily take charge of his department until they find a replacement.
Newey has reportedly already approved of Cardile’s arrival which may further encourage him to put pen to paper with the British team.
It’ll be fascinating to see what impact Newey potentially arriving at Aston Martin has on the engineer market with backroom staff in F1 likely to be desperate to work alongside him.
