Williams are eyeing Franco Colapinto as a potential replacement for Carlos Sainz

According to a report from Planet F1, Williams are prepared to approach Franco Colapinto should Carlos Sainz decide to leave at the end of this season.

There are many within the F1 paddock who believe Vowles would approach Colapinto if Sainz walks away, but the Argentine driver isn’t the only option.

Williams’ reserve driver Luke Browning could be given an opportunity to earn an official seat with the team as well.

F2 standout Alex Dunne is also being given consideration, as his performances have caught the eye of the team.

However, the future for Sainz could see him leave Williams to replace one of the all-time greats. But he isn’t the only driver in the running.

Sainz has long been considered one of Alonso’s successors within the sport, so landing him to replace the two-time world champion would be a lateral move.

However, Sainz isn’t the only option, as Sergio Perez is also in the running, as his long-term future with Cadillac could be up in the air amid the emergence of Colton Herta.

Alonso wants to be competitive in Formula 1, which is likely to be the driving factor in the decision he makes regarding his future with Aston Martin.
