Carlos Sainz has reportedly handed his management team a clear instruction amid reports linking him with a move away from Williams.
After losing his Ferrari seat to Lewis Hamilton ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Sainz decided to move down the grid and join Williams, putting hope in the team’s long-term future.
In his first year with the team, Sainz impressed as he secured two podiums and ended the season ninth in the world championship.
However, in 2026, things have not worked, with Williams struggling to get on top of the new regulations.
As a result, Sainz has been linked with a move away. It has been claimed that teams like Red Bull and Aston Martin have shown interest in the 31-year-old Spaniard.

Carlos Sainz asks his management team to ‘hold off’ presenting options for 2027
Now, according to a report by Planet F1, Sainz has ‘made it very clear’ that he will hold talks with Williams team boss James Vowles in the next few weeks in order to assess the direction of the current project.
It has been suggested that Sainz has told his management team to ‘hold off’ presenting any potential options for 2027 until the summer break.
Earlier in the week, the Spaniard stated that his ‘top priority’ is to stay with Williams and continue with the project.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Aston Martin could be a potential destination should Sainz decide to leave. That will also depend on what Fernando Alonso wants to do with his own career.
Aside from Aston Martin, a move to Audi has been described as a ‘long shot’ for Sainz.

The report also mentioned a potential return to the Red Bull set-up, with uncertainty growing over Max Verstappen’s future.
It has been claimed that the Sainz and Verstappen camps ‘did not see eye to eye’, which impacted the Spaniard’s chances of joining the team when Red Bull were looking for a driver to partner with the four-time world champion.
However, if Verstappen does decide to leave Red Bull, the door could be open for Sainz to join the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
What did Carlos Sainz say about his Williams future?
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, Sainz was asked whether he is looking for his next opportunity.
In response, the 31-year-old refused to comment on the rumours and claimed that he is fully focused on working with Williams, he said, as per Planet F1: “Not really. I’m not.
“Seriously, I’m not, because I have so much work to do here in Williams right now over the next few races and the amount of simulator sessions we’re doing, the amount of meetings that are being held over the last few months.
“I’ve also told my team to leave me a bit on my own until the summer break, just to try and help Williams and improve the situation as much as possible.”
