The last thing Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen would have wanted to see at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix was Lando Norris taking the chequered flag.
The only consolation for Red Bull’s lead driver is that his old teammate Daniel Ricciardo managed to steal the fastest lap point away from Lando Norris on what be his last action in Formula 1.
Ricciardo faces being replaced by Liam Lawson before the next race at Austin and he could only come home in 18th after a three-stop strategy.
Verstappen sent a short message to Ricciardo for what could be his final act of service but could do nothing to stop Norris from running away with the race.

The first lap of the race was going to be crucial given how difficult it is to overtake at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Helmut Marko thought Verstappen could take advantage of Norris’s poor starts but the Brit finally led a lap from pole position.
Once Norris was in clean air, he would have hoped to drive off into the distance without any problems.
However, the top three watched the key events of the race back in the cooldown room and Verstappen couldn’t believe one terrifying moment from Norris’s race that could have ended in disaster.
It highlighted just how difficult the conditions were for the drivers in unbelievably humid conditions.
Max Verstappen left stunned by Lando Norris scraping the barrier during Singapore Grand Prix
Norris, Verstappen and Oscar Piastri watched the highlights of the race and as the Brit entered the room, Verstappen said: “At one stage I thought you were going to lap me!”
Watching one of the Mercedes cars run wide, Norris remarked: “I did exactly the same.”
Verstappen replied: “You did that?” to which Norris joked: “Oh yeah, every lap!”

“There were so many marbles off line,” Norris continued, “When you overtook a backmarker…”
Piastri agreed and highlighted a moment in his race where the same thing happened and said: “K-Mag got a puncture right in front of me, so I had to go around the outside of turn 10. For the next like three laps…”
The trio then saw the clip of Norris locking his tyres going into turn 10 and all three drivers couldn’t believe how close he was to losing his front wing, with Verstappen simply saying, “No way!”
“You should have released the brake a little bit there,” Verstappen concluded.
Daniel Ricciardo plays key role in Lando Norris vs Max Verstappen title battle
Going into the weekend, Ricciardo knew he might be losing his RB seat to Liam Lawson with a four-week break on the horizon before the United States Grand Prix.
Unfortunately, a Q1 exit made his chances of progressing very difficult, especially as Ricciardo wasn’t very pleased with comments from Helmut Marko about his future.
The race in Singapore didn’t go to plan either and after being the first driver to change off his soft tyres, his chances of reaching the top ten and scoring points looked non-existent.
However, Ricciardo was the only driver to do a three-stop strategy and had one aim in mind when he put on fresh tyres.
Ricciardo denied Norris a fastest lap and that point could be significant at the end of the season.
If Norris wins every race – including Sprint Races – and secures every other fastest lap, he’ll now miss out on winning the title by a single point if Verstappen comes second.
That could prove to be one of his most significant contributions to Red Bull but he may not be on the grid to see it.
