Max Verstappen and his team missed out on a possible win at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring due to an issue with the driveshaft.

With a little over three hours left in the race, Verstappen Racing’s Dani Juncadella pulled into the pits with an issue in the car.

It appeared that the team’s Mercedes-AMG had a driveshaft issue that forced them to pit the car for an extended period of time, taking them out of the lead and eventually out of contention.

Is this the best overtake you’ve seen all season? 🤯

Max Verstappen passed the #47 Mercedes of Jesse Krohn on the grass at the Nurburgring!

Despite this, Team Verstappen have decided to fix the car as soon as possible so that the drivers can re-enter the race in the final moments and thank the fans.

But with the win at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring now out of reach, Max Verstappen has given his first reaction to the disastrous result.

Max Verstappen makes first statement after Nurburgring 24 Hours loss

Taking to X, Max Verstappen thanked all of the fans that tuned in or came to Nurburgring to support the team in their attempt to win the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

While he and the team were devastated that they couldn’t get the win due to a driveshaft issue, he acknowledged that it was the nature of the sport.

“Thank you to all of you for the immense support we’ve felt this week! Absolutely gutted we couldn’t bring it home, but that’s racing. Until the next one.”

This marks the second heartbreak for Verstappen at Nurburgring this year. Last month, Verstappen was disqualified at Nurburgring due to exceeding the tyre limit.

And given that Team Verstappen looked like a serious threat to win the race, this result coming down to an issue with the car will sting greatly for everyone involved.

Max Verstappen will look to Canadian Grand Prix for redemption

While some had predicted Verstappen wouldn’t win the Nurburgring 24 Hours, his team’s loss coming down to an issue with the car shows just how strong their performance was.

Even with Verstappen being warned about driving in the dark, he managed things very well, and even got his team the lead near the mid-point of the race.

But with his GT3 venture now behind him, Verstappen will return to Formula 1 to try and win the Canadian Grand Prix with Red Bull.

Red Bull have given Verstappen a good car again. And while they aren’t at the level of Mercedes or McLaren, Verstappen’s motivation could help him get past everyone en route to his first win this season.
