Max Verstappen has had a superb career at Red Bull since joining the team in 2016, winning the last three championships in a row.

The Dutchman hit the ground running with the Austrian team, taking victory on his debut at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen has led Red Bull into the ground effect era after clinching his first world championship in 2021 in dramatic circumstances.

He is getting closer to his fourth world championship this season, holding a 57-point advantage over his nearest rival Lando Norris.

The Austrian team have stuttered over the past few months, not taking a race win since the Spanish Grand Prix in June.

Speedcafe reports that Verstappen could make a shock decision soon, leaving Red Bull with a decision to make.

Verstappen has comfortably beaten his teammate Sergio Perez since the Mexican joined the team ahead of the 2021 season.

He has been able to extract more performance from the RB20 this season, managing a difficult car and salvaging third place at the United States Grand Prix.

The Dutchman has also hinted at racing in GT cars and other forms of racing after his career in Formula 1 comes to an end.

Verstappen’s career could be finishing sooner than expected, as Speedcafe reported that the 27-year-old could be looking for a new team or leave F1 altogether at the end of 2025.

This would be a seismic shock to the F1 world, as Verstappen has been dominating the past couple of seasons and is one of just three world champions in the field.

If Verstappen were to depart, it would leave Red Bull searching for a driver heading into the new regulations introduced in 2026. Red Bull are unlikely to attract McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who is performing well.

Red Bull are now a less attractive team than they used to be

Red Bull dominated in 2022 and 2023 as Verstappen took his second and third championships at a canter.

They have now been overtaken by McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship and trail by 40 points with five rounds to go.

If Verstappen were to leave the team, Red Bull may find it more difficult than previously to find a top driver, as they have lost Adrian Newey.
