Red Bull Racing, currently competing as Oracle Red Bull Racing, are among the most successful Formula 1 teams in history with six constructors’ and seven drivers’ titles.
The team made their debut in 2005 after Dietrich Mateschitz, the late co-owner of the Red Bull energy drinks brand, bought Jaguar Racing from Ford in November 2004. Red Bull only paid a normal fee to take over the Formula 1 team with the proviso of injecting over £200m.
Success was slow at first but Red Bull eventually grew into one of the most dominant teams in the modern era. Sebastian Vettel won their first drivers’ championship in 2010, as he and Mark Webber further combined to claim Red Bull’s first constructors’ championship, as well.

Red Bull Racing team name
The name, Red Bull Racing, simply comes from the parent Red Bull GmbH company and the team’s purpose. Additionally, they currently compete in F1 under the name, Oracle Red Bull Racing, owing to a $500m (£388m) sponsorship deal with the computer software company.
Red Bull Racing founding year
Red Bull Racing made their debut as a Formula 1 constructor during the 2005 season. David Coulthard drove for the team that year, alongside teammates Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi in select races. Just the Scotsman, Coulthard, did the full 2005 season for Red Bull.
Red Bull Racing current team principal
Red Bull GmbH named Laurent Mekies as the F1 team principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing in July 2025 at the same time as it sacked Christian Horner after 20 years in charge. Mekies moved across from Racing Bulls to take over Red Bull, having led the sister team since 2024.
Mekies became just the second team principal in Red Bull’s F1 history, as he replaced Horner who the team had made hiring a priority upon buying the ailing Jaguar team from Ford back in 2004. Mekies had been Racing Bulls’ team principal since 2024 before he joined Red Bull.
Red Bull Racing current drivers

Red Bull Racing currently employ Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar as the Formula 1 team’s drivers. Verstappen graduated from Toro Rosso to replace Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull before the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, in which he got his first win. Hadjar moved up from Racing Bulls, as Red Bull’s junior team were then named, to replace Yuki Tsunoda from the 2026 F1 season.
What F1 engine do Red Bull use?
The 2026 F1 season marked the start of a new regulatory era, as the series introduced new engines with a near 50/50 split between electrical and combustion power along with axing the expensive MGU-H. The 2026 season also saw Red Bull become an engine manufacturer.
After Honda initially pulled the plug on the Japanese giant’s F1 engine programme in 2021, Christian Horner sought to establish Red Bull Powertrains to develop an in-house PU ahead of the 2026 regulations. Horner also got Red Bull a technical partnership with Ford to gain the American giant’s support through the brand’s expertise with hybrid engine technologies.
Team lineage
Red Bull Racing can trace the team’s roots back to Stewart Grand Prix, the team that Jackie Stewart founded. Stewart GP competed in Formula 1 from 1997 to 1999 before Ford bought them in June 1999. Ford also renamed them as, Jaguar Racing, to promote the British brand.
But Jaguar would not prove to be a competitive outfit, scoring a combined 49 points in five seasons. They did not finish a year higher than seventh in the constructors’ championship, as well. So, with Ford registering heavy losses, it sold Jaguar to Red Bull in November 2004.
