Lewis Hamilton had made similar complaints to Charles Leclerc about Ferrari’s brakes as far back as the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2025.
Leclerc vowed to follow Hamilton’s approach in a furious rant after crashing out of the Monaco Grand Prix in heartbreaking fashion.
For much of the race, Leclerc complained about the issues he was facing with the brakes, as it was hampering his ability to compete with Kimi Antonelli and the rest of the pack.
Charles Leclerc ends his Monaco GP in the wall! 💥 But was it driver error, or a track issue?
The FIA red-flagged the race soon after in order to investigate the final turn of the track.
Things got so bad that Brembo, Ferrari’s brake suppliers, put out a statement refuting Leclerc’s passive criticism and suggesting that they deliver the highest quality product to the team.
However, even as far back as last year, Lewis Hamilton pointed out this issue and how much of a struggle it was before making a big change this season.

Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 Emilia Romagna GP comments resurface amid Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari frustration
Despite finishing fourth at the Emilia Romagna GP last year, Lewis Hamilton did not hesitate to point out a huge issue he and Ferrari faced with the brakes over the weekend.
When asked whether his struggles with the brakes came down to the transition he made from Carbon Industrie at Mercedes to Brembo with Ferrari, Hamilton pointed out the issue with the inconsistent performance from Brembo’s brakes.
Lewis Hamilton: “We had some brake issues that made a massive difference. It was a fight with that. That’s been a problem, that’s been quite a big issue all year, actually. I’ve never experienced that before, so that’s a new thing for me this year.”
Reporter: “It’s not the Carbon Industrie versus Brembo transition you’re having?”
Hamilton: “It’s not the transition, it’s the performance… It’s a lottery, we will roll the dice and you put one on and it works and put another on and it doesn’t and we’ll see.”

Charles Leclerc using Carbon Industrie brake discs could jeopardise Ferrari relationship with Brembo
Given how quickly Brembo put out a statement in response to Charles Leclerc’s comments, it’s clear that there is some tension caused because of the Monegasque driver’s outburst.
And with Leclerc vowing to imitate Hamilton’s approach, it’s possible that he will opt for the Carbon Industrie brake discs from the next race in Barcelona.
Hamilton did what Leclerc never thought to do at Ferrari, which is to make some changes of his own to get the most out of his car.
Even if it took him some time, it appears Leclerc has followed suit. The only question now is how Leclerc’s rejection of Brembo’s brake discs affects their relationship with Ferrari.
