Lewis Hamilton’s excellent P2 finish at the Canadian Grand Prix was the result of a change in strategy that Charles Leclerc can learn a lot from.
In the lead-up to the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton claimed he wouldn’t use Ferrari’s simulator, opting to go with an alternative approach to his preparation.
While some might consider this a damning indictment of Ferrari’s issues, it actually proved to be the best decision for Hamilton over the weekend.
Should Charles Leclerc be worried about Lewis Hamilton’s upturn in form?
Hamilton made internal adjustments that allowed him to outperform Charles Leclerc in nearly every event this weekend, putting him back at the forefront of Ferrari’s championship push.
And for his efforts, Lewis Hamilton was rewarded with a P2 finish. But his changed approach and the success it brought him begs the question: why hasn’t Charles Leclerc tried something like this?

Lewis Hamilton has shown Charles Leclerc what he must do to find championship success with Ferrari
To be clear, none of this is to say that Charles Leclerc should abandon Ferrari’s simulator like Lewis Hamilton has done in the last few weeks.
It’s been suggested that Ferrari’s simulator suits Leclerc’s driving style, and he shouldn’t veer away from that just to emulate Hamilton.
Rather, it is to question why Leclerc has not taken matters into his own hands when Ferrari aren’t able to deliver the perfect car for him to compete for a championship.
A driver like Hamilton has a wealth of experience to know when he needs to get his hands dirty and do a little more on his own to get the best result out of a car that isn’t in sync with him.
However, Leclerc is not exactly lacking in experience, and has had even more time to understand where Ferrari struggle. So why hasn’t he taken the extra initiative to come up with a solution that helps him get the best out of his car?
For a driver who many believe has the potential to win the world championship, Leclerc has yet to show the initiative beyond the team’s engineering to try and deliver some strong results

Charles Leclerc must now make the most of his power with Ferrari
Charles Leclerc will not exactly be thrilled seeing Lewis Hamilton outperform him despite being with the team for a shorter time.
But rather than get frustrated, Leclerc must use the prior weekend as motivation to figure out his own solutions with Ferrari to get the best out of the SF-26.
Whether that be putting more hours in the simulator, speaking to his engineers, or even adjusting his driving style, Leclerc must find a way around his Ferrari Achilles Heel.
While Ferrari’s upgrades didn’t get the result they hoped for, that cannot be the sole excuse for Leclerc’s disappointing performance at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc is being shown exactly what is needed from him to emerge as a championship contender by his own teammate. The question for him now is how he plans to implement this example.
