Formula 1 fans think they are “dreaming” after F1 confirmed the return of an “actual circuit”, with the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park back on the calendar from 2027.

The Turkish GP last featured on the calendar in 2021, but Istanbul Park has long been a fans’ favourite circuit from its first spell on the schedule between 2005 and 2011. Formula 1 only returned to Turkey in 2020 and 2021 as a replacement event due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Istanbul Park is now set to return permanently to the calendar from 2027, though, as F1 has signed a five-year deal with the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports. The Turkish GP coming back to Formula 1 from 2027 will not see the calendar expand beyond the current 24 races.

Formula 1 confirmed the Turkish GP’s return from 2027 this Friday, but it comes amid other circuits, like Zandvoort, seeing their contracts end or become a rotational race, like Spa and Barcelona. It also follows F1 returning to Portimao for the Portuguese GP in 2027 and 2028.

F1 fans celebrate a ‘real track’ joining the calendar with the Turkish Grand Prix’s return

The Turkish GP’s return to F1 from 2027 has been expected for the past few months, but the official confirmation of the race’s revival has delighted a lot of Formula 1 fans. Many fans are particularly overjoyed that F1 will be returning to “an actual racing circuit” like Istanbul Park.

One fan noted on Reddit in response to the Turkish GP’s return to the F1 calendar: “Let’s go! An actual circuit for racing.” Another fan also claimed: “It’s a miracle, an actual racing circuit added to the calendar!” One Formula 1 fan even declared: “A real track! Am I dreaming?”

Given the spate of street circuits now on the calendar, one fan also claimed: “I always prefer real race tracks over stupid street tracks.” Another F1 even teased: “I didn’t know they were building a street circuit in Istanbul?” An F1 fan also claimed Turkey’s return is a win for fans.

The fan suggested, in response to Istanbul Park’s return from 2027: “That’s becoming a rare sight nowadays! Let’s rejoice and hope that we get more proper circuits rather than forced street circuits. Turkey is a huge win for F1, some great races there over the years.”

Istanbul Park’s return to the F1 calendar has delighted lots of fans, as there were nine street circuits on the 2026 schedule when it was initially announced. The cancellation of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2026 due to the situation in the Middle East removed one street track.

The 2026 F1 season started at a street circuit at Australia’s Albert Park, and F1 will also go to street circuits for the Grands Prix in Miami, Canada, Monaco, Spain, Azerbaijan, Singapore and Las Vegas. Madrid has now replaced Barcelona as the home of the Spanish Grand Prix.
