It has been officially announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will make a return to the Formula 1 calendar from 2027.

Back in 2005, the first Turkish Grand Prix was held around Istanbul Park, with Kimi Raikkonen winning ahead of Fernando Alonso and Juan Pablo Montoya.

Istanbul Park remained on the F1 calendar until 2011, before making a return in 2020 and 2021.

The last Formula 1 race held in Turkey was won by Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas, with Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez also securing a place on the podium.

Since then, the Turkish Grand Prix has been taken off the F1 calendar, but it is now set to make a return.

“As a city, Istanbul represents a cultural gateway between Europe and Asia, offering a unique blend of history and tradition with a forward-thinking approach to sport, business, and entertainment.

“Many memorable moments have been made in our sport’s history at Istanbul Park, and I’m excited to begin the next chapter of our partnership, giving fans the opportunity to experience even more incredible racing in a truly fantastic location.”

F1 has not announced whether the Turkish Grand Prix will be one of the circuits making up the new rotational list. Istanbul Park’s return to the calendar from next year also follows F1 confirming its return to Portugal in 2027 and 2028.

Formula 1 will rotate between visits to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2028, 2030 and 2032, while staging the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031.
