The British Grand Prix brought to an end a triple header of Formula 1 races Sergio Perez won’t want to look back at for some time.
Red Bull announced that Sergio Perez had signed a new contract before the Canadian Grand Prix but since then he’s failed to finish in the top six of a race.
It’s left the 34-year-old clinging to his seat in the team and a swap could be made during the summer break if Perez fails to match two performances clauses in his contract.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan has been speaking about Perez’s situation.
It shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that Perez’s form has dropped off as dramatically as it has this season.
Last year Red Bull were sent a warning sign by Perez after the Miami Grand Prix.
Previously, he had matched teammate Max Verstappen and won two races before struggling – particularly in qualifying – and almost losing 2nd place in the Drivers’ Championship to Lewis Hamilton despite having by far the most dominant car.

The gap between Perez and Verstappen has increased again this year, but unfortunately for him, the rest of the grid has converged on Red Bull, meaning suddenly more and more drivers are able to take advantage of Perez’s poor form.
Jordan believes that the six-time race winner’s form simply has to improve and has explained why he’s seen such a sudden drop-off.

Eddie Jordan explains why Sergio Perez has ‘lost his mojo’
Reflecting on the difficulties Perez has experienced, Jordan said: “I mean when they extended it I presume the negotiations were around the Monaco time and we know what a great he was usually in the wet or when tyre situations came in.
“But that’s all eliminated itself out of the situation, so the clear path that he had on street circuits, he doesn’t have any more.
“He’s lost, in my opinion, he’s lost his mojo whether he’s under pressure since this has been announced that he has renewed his contract, I see a distinct lack of performance.
“I have to call into question why is that? What has happened as it should be quite the reverse.
“You should get a new contract and you say, ‘Wow, let me make the maximum out of this, let me win certain races, let me fight for the championships!’.
“Just like Nico Rosberg did with Lewis Hamilton, for heaven’s sake he’s got the same car as Max Verstappen.
“He was a second a lap off the qualifying of his teammate, that’s unacceptable, that’s just not possible!”

Red Bull already considering replacements for Sergio Perez
Unsurprisingly, Red Bull already has several drivers in the pipeline they could call upon should they decide to drop Perez.
Yuki Tsunoda isn’t expected to earn a call-up to Red Bull despite his impressive form this season with RB.
His teammate Daniel Ricciardo is also under pressure but Christian Horner is a big fan which could play into his hands.
Then there’s reserve driver Liam Lawson who just completed a filming day with Red Bull.
Lawson has been suggested as a replacement for Perez but that would put a lot of pressure on a driver with only five Grand Prix’s worth of experience under his belt.
Red Bull face a very tricky choice and will be hoping Perez’s form suddenly picks up at the Hungaroring and Spa.
