With Formula 1 introducing new regulations in 2026, having the strongest possible driver line-up and backroom staff personnel is vital.
Red Bull have been the dominant force since the latest rule change, with Max Verstappen potentially on his way to winning a fourth straight championship.
One of the masterminds behind Red Bull’s most recent spell at the top of both championships has been Adrian Newey.
Newey is the most successful designer in the sport’s history and has won more than two dozen driver and team titles during his time in Formula 1.
However, after nearly two decades with Red Bull, he’s decided to move on to take on a new challenge in 2025.
Aston Martin have been heavily linked with signing Newey although nothing has been confirmed by the team.
Speaking on the Pit Talk Podcast, journalist Mat Coch has shared that Newey has been exploring his options among other teams in the paddock.

One of the most exciting projects on the grid right now is at Ferrari where Frederic Vasseur has managed to convince Lewis Hamilton to join from 2025.
Ferrari were heavily linked with Newey and Coch believes that he was house hunting close to the £3bn-valued team’s factory at one point, as per Forbes.
However, at this stage, it looks like that move is off the cards, eliminating one potential option for the 65-year-old.

Adrian Newey was house hunting near Ferrari’s factory after confirming Red Bull exit
Talking about Newey potentially joining Aston Martin next year, Coch said: “It makes some sense, Newey designed the Aston Martin Valkyrie which will be used in the World Endurance Championship next year.
“He’s got aspirations to continue doing road cars and it’s another opportunity to develop a midfield team into a world championship winner.
“He’s done it with Williams, a little bit with McLaren as well, certainly with Red Bull.
“It’ll be interesting to see why the Ferrari deal fell away because I heard from a reliable source that he was house hunting in Maranello at one point.”
Adrian Newey would be latest top backroom recruit for Aston Martin
Although Newey’s move to Aston Martin hasn’t been finalised, he would be the latest exciting backroom staff member Lawrence Stroll has recruited in preparation for 2026.
Team principal Mike Krack believes Aston Martin are fortunate to have Stroll in charge as his ambition and the fact he’s able to make quick decisions are benefitting the team behind the scenes.
Newey is said to be delighted that Enrico Cardile has joined Aston Martin from Ferrari as chief technical officer.
Almost every team on the grid wanted Andy Cowell and his expertise on the engine side of development will be vital during Aston Martin’s upcoming partnership with Honda.
The Japanese power unit supplier have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Red Bull over recent years, helping them win several titles.
Fernando Alonso has had his run-ins with Honda in the past but those are now a long way behind him.
Stroll has also funded a state-of-the-art new facility at Silverstone for the team to work out of.
He’s given Aston Martin every opportunity to succeed in the future, but only time will tell if they can overtake the likes of Red Bull and McLaren.
