What Franco Colapinto’s agent has now said about a potential move to Red Bull in 2025

Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto will know he’s got a lot to learn after his first experience of a wet Formula 1 weekend.

The Sao Paulo Grand Prix presented some of the most challenging conditions seen this season.

Qualifying was cancelled on Saturday afternoon due to thunderstorms and instead run on Sunday morning, but the conditions hadn’t improved much in that time.

Franco Colapinto then brought out the first of five red flags during the session with a heavy crash in Q1.

He lost the rear going around the Curva do Sol, but wouldn’t be the last car to find the barriers at that point.

Williams had their work cut out and couldn’t repair teammate Alex Albon’s car in time after he sustained significant damage in Q3.

Colapinto’s car was ready for the race and despite lining up in the wrong grid slot, got away with it due to an aborted start.

His race was over halfway through the Grand Prix, bringing out a crucial red flag for Red Bull driver Max Verstappen with a crash under the safety car.

Journalist Diego Mejia was speaking on the Pit Pass Podcast about Colapinto’s future after being linked with Red Bull.

He may not have done his chances of a permanent seat in 2025 many favours after a tricky weekend.

Franco Colapinto’s agent responds to rumours linking him with Red Bull

Reporting from what he heard in the paddock in Brazil about Colapinto’s future, Mejia said: “For the past 48 hours, Argentina has absolutely exploded with a local journalist claiming that it is a done deal between Colapinto and Red Bull for 2025.

“A video publication on social media from an Argentinian journalist who I will not name claims that he was the one to say that Franco was going to race in Formula 1 with Williams and that now he had enough information to assure that Franco is going to be racing for Red Bull next year.

“Jamie Campbell-Walter, who is part of the management of Franco Colapinto, actually replied to him on social media and said to him, thanks for informing.

“And I actually had the chance to speak to his wife, Maria Catarineu, who is also part of Franco’s management team. There is nothing signed yet.

“Then, and this is my opinion, it is possible, there are talks, but nothing has been agreed so far.

“A few Argentine journalists even asked Maria to swear on her kids that no deal had been done. She confessed to me that she did.

“So, it’s going to be a talking point for sure until the end of the year, if not before, and actually James Vowles said today that he expects a resolution before the last race of the season.”

Helmut Marko not keen on signing Franco Colapinto for Red Bull

There are two available seats left on the grid for 2025, one at RB and one at Sauber.

Gabriel Bortoleto appears to be the favourite to sign for Sauber, leaving Valtteri Bottras without a driver next year.

It means if Colapinto is going to stay in F1, he needs to join the Red Bull family and hope that Sergio Perez is relieved of his duties.

Perez has admitted that he’s having a torrid season and that continued in Sao Paulo as he failed to finish in the top 10 despite five retirements.

However, Helmut Marko is unconvinced that Colapinto is the answer and his display in Brazil may prove him right.

There’s no doubt that the 21-year-old is extremely talented, but he doesn’t look ready to race alongside Verstappen just yet and his agent may recognise that.

It also aligns with Karun Chandhok’s thoughts as he believes Colapinto’s career could be damaged by joining Red Bull.
