Ted Kravitz says Flavio Briatore is angry with ‘unsporting’ Red Bull for keeping Monaco trophy

Flavio Briatore is unhappy with Red Bull for refusing to hand Isack Hadjar’s third-place trophy from the Monaco Grand Prix over to Pierre Gasly, Ted Kravitz says.

Gasly was reinstated to third place after Alpine proved that he shouldn’t have been penalised for speeding in the pit lane. That means Hadjar drops to P4.

However, Red Bull have lodged an intention to appeal, along with McLaren, who saw Oscar Piastri sanctioned. Mercedes are considering similar action on behalf of George Russell.

The FIA rescinds Pierre Gasly’s penalties and he gets P3 in the Monaco Grand Prix – Is this the right outcome?

Alpine and Red Bull in dispute after Pierre Gasly reinstated to Monaco P3

As far as Red Bull are concerned, the matter has not yet been resolved, which is why they haven’t given the silverware to Alpine.

But Alpine boss Briatore thinks that Gasly is entitled to the trophy given that he has, for the moment at least, been recognised as the rightful third-place finisher.

Further changes to the finishing order are considered unlikely because the protesting teams served their penalties during the race, whereas Gasly’s were applied at the chequered flag.

“The farrago about who has the Monaco Grand Prix third-place trophy that the stewards decided belongs to Pierre Gasly continues,” Kravitz said on his ‘Notebook‘. “I understand that Flavio Briatore has called it unsporting.

“I understand that Flavio Briatore is not happy about it and has said that this is unsporting of Red Bull to unreasonably, in his mind, withhold the trophy from Monaco, bearing in mind that it’s still under some sort of appeal.

“But Flav is unhappy that they haven’t just handed it over instead of waiting for all of those things to finally be done.”

What did Isack Hadjar say about potentially losing Monaco podium?

Alpine haven’t scored a podium since the end of the 2024 season and have only managed seven overall since their 2021 rebrand. By contrast, eight-time constructors’ champions Red Bull are approaching 300 in F1.

This was, however, Hadjar’s first podium for the team and just his second in the sport, which might play a part in their reluctance.

Speaking before the verdict was issued, Hadjar said he was more concerned about the three lost points than leaving an empty space in his trophy cabinet.

“It just sounds good,” he said, via Motorsport. “The only downside would be the three points taken away from me, the podium I had, the emotions were there, so it would be three points less.”
