Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz has admitted that he would love to see Alfa Romeo reserve driver Theo Pourchaire win a Formula 1 race.

Kravitz was a guest on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast and was talking about the young Frenchman off the back of a terrific campaign in Formula 2.

Theo Pourchaire had to wait months to secure the championship against Mercedes youngster Frederik Vesti.

A poor qualifying session in Abu Dhabi meant he started 14th in both races and when Vesti won last Saturday’s Sprint Race, suddenly the pressure was on.

However, Theo Pourchaire drove fantastically during the Feature Race and managed to secure a fantastic championship win.

Pourchaire is part of the Alfa Romeo team and was their reserve driver for the 2023 season.

He competed in two practice sessions and a post-season test but won’t be joining the F1 grid next year.

Ted Kravitz has admitted that he would love to see Pourchaire win an F1 race one day just because of his wild celebrations.

The 20-year-old couldn’t hide his joy when he crossed the chequered flag last weekend to secure the title.

With Max Verstappen getting very much accustomed to winning races in F1, he needs a bit of competition on that front.

The topic of discussion on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast was the potentially vacant seat at Williams and who could potentially replace Logan Sargeant.

The American hasn’t been dropped by the team but is under pressure and faces an uncertain winter right now.

Discussing the new F2 champion as an option, Kravitz said: “You can’t put [Theo] Pourchaire in a Williams, you need to wait and put him in a race-winning car because firstly we need more people called Theodore in the sport, and secondly we need to see what’s going to happen when he wins a Grand Prix.

“Did you see his celebrations when he won the F2 championship? He made sure he got his helmet off before he did his victory celebrations. I mean his celebration was so flamboyant, I’d love to see him win a Grand Prix to see what he’s going to do next!”

While Kravitz was joking about Pourchaire potentially being picky about which seat he would take in F1, the Frenchman deserve his chance to race against the very best drivers.

He and Felipe Drugovich are now waiting to see if they can break into the sport having already achieved all they can in the junior Formulas.

There’s been talk of Pourchaire joining Super Formula where F2 rival Ayumu Iwasa will be competing in 2024.

Liam Lawson made the move to Japan this year and appears to have hugely benefitted from it, starring for AlphaTauri in Daniel Ricciardo’s absence as a result.

Ideally, there would be more cars on the grid to give these youngsters their chance, but that looks a long way off right now with Andretti battling to enter the paddock.
