Alpine star Pierre Gasly has conceded that a rival Formula 1 driver ‘everybody’ in the paddock rates is under pressure to save his seat amid a disappointing season in 2024.
Only a handful of drives remain up for grabs on the 2025 grid with every team confirming at least one driver. Gasly is one locked in for next season after he signed a new multi-year deal with Alpine in June. It remains to be seen who replaces Esteban Ocon at the Enstone squad.
Team chiefs at Alpine opting against giving Ocon a new contract ahead of his expiring at the end of 2024 threw the Frenchman into a stacked driver market. Carlos Sainz remains up for grabs ahead of leaving Ferrari like Sauber star Valtteri Bottas and Kevin Magnussen of Haas.

Pierre Gasly admits Sergio Perez is ‘under big pressure’ at Red Bull
Yet despite Sergio Perez signing a new contract at Red Bull in June, Gasly feels the 34-year-old is also under ‘big pressure’. The team from Milton Keynes extended the Mexican’s terms by two years. But Christian Horner concedes Perez’s form since re-signing is ‘unsustainable’.
Perez has only scored 14 points over the last six Grand Prix after crashing in the Monaco GP and the Canadian GP. He also finished the British GP in P17 after Perez beached his Red Bull in the first stage of qualifying. The Guadalajara native’s last podium came at the Chinese GP.

A P7 finish in the F1 Sprint at the Austrian GP gives Perez an extra point through the past six rounds. But Gasly admits this season has not been good enough. Red Bull could even look to replace Perez in the summer break if the six-time Grand Prix winner’s form does not recover.
“First of all, I think my situation was very different than Checo’s,” Gasly told RacingNews365. “But I think, right now, he is under big pressure. I don’t really know what to say, to be fair.
“He is a good driver, everybody knows it. But he doesn’t seem to get his things together, whether it’s himself or coming from the team. I don’t know and can’t really comment on that. But [it is] not a good year for him.”
The mood around Sergio Perez at Red Bull is changing for the worse

Red Bull announced that Perez had signed a two-year extension to a contract that was set to expire after 2024 following his crash with Magnussen in the Monaco GP. It even followed his P8 finish in the Emilia Romagna GP, a result he has only bettered with P7 in the Austrian GP.

Now, the mood in Milton Keynes is changing for the worse. Red Bull’s mechanics reportedly told Horner that Perez is endangering the defence of their constructors’ title amid animated talks at the British GP. McLaren have outscored Red Bull by 14 points since Perez re-signed.
McLaren have even outscored Red Bull by 21 points since Perez last got on a podium at the Chinese GP. Max Verstappen is effectively single-handily carrying Red Bull’s defence of their constructors’ title against both McLaren drivers, as well as the Ferrari and Mercedes racers.
