McLaren driver Oscar Piastri had another weekend to forget at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Although a fourth-place finish isn’t the end of the world, how Oscar Piastri reached that position will seriously frustrate him.
Piastri outqualified his McLaren teammate Lando Norris on Saturday, with George Russell taking pole position in Singapore.
The Mercedes driver drove off into the distance to take the fifth victory of his career, but all the action unfolded behind him.
McLaren fans had their say on a clash between Piastri and Norris that took place on the opening lap.
Norris came from behind and, after initial contact with Max Verstappen, he bashed wheels with Piastri to take third place.
Piastri was furious on the team radio, asking what McLaren were going to do about it, but the stewards and the team both cleared his teammate, despite the 24-year-old suggesting the move wasn’t ‘fair’.
The Australian is still in the lead in the drivers’ championship, although his advantage has shrunk to 21 points.
He was asked about the race in his post-session interview, and towed the party line while also showing some of his frustration.

Oscar Piastri address Lando Norris contact after the Singapore Grand Prix
Piastri was asked about his radio messages in an interview with Sky Sports F1 (5/10 3:16 pm) during the first lap incident with Norris and said: “Yeah, obviously, a difficult race, a difficult first lap, but I’ve not seen the replay, obviously, I just know, from in the car, so I’ll go and have a look.
“It’s obviously a great night for the whole team, not the race I was looking for, but for the whole team. Tonight is a culmination of a lot of hard work of not just this year, but lots of years.
“It’s a really proud moment for me to be a part of that and proud to be involved.”

| 10 | Carlos Sainz | Williams | 1 |
It was then put to Piastri that Brown said after the race that McLaren’s drivers race hard and race clean.
Asked if he believed that statement, Piastri hesitated and said: “Yes, I think we do.
“I don’t think obviously there was any intention of contact, but there was, and again, I need to look at the replay and see where exactly.”
Piastri was then asked whether he believes there are new rules between himself and Norris off the back of this clash, and he continued: “I don’t know. I’ve not seen the incident from the TV camera, so I need to look at that first before I say any comments.”

Oscar Piastri explains how he plans to ‘reset’ after back-to-back tough weekends
Piastri is known for his mental strength, and in his post-race interview, he was asked how he would ‘reset’ after a couple of difficult weekends. He explained: “I think just take the learnings from this weekend and see what can be improved.
“I think the weekend as a whole was genuinely very good, practice went well, and qualifying went well.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 324 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | 299 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 255 |
| 4 | George Russell | 212 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 165 |
| 6 | Lewis Hamilton | 121 |
| 7 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 78 |
| 8 | Alexander Albon | 70 |
| 9 | Isack Hadjar | 39 |
| 10 | Nico Hulkenberg | 37 |
“The race, maybe a little bit slow to get going, but I felt like the pace for the rest of the race was pretty good, just yeah, obviously, around here, it’s pretty much impossible to overtake. So that was all.”
Martin Brundle suggested Piastri was subject to an ‘unfair’ decision during qualifying, highlighting that his luck has certainly turned since the start of the season.
On top of that, the pit stop issues that Norris suffered with in Monza and Baku impacted the championship leader on Sunday, and with six races to go, his advantage is slowly ebbing away.
