Grill’d burger chain apologises for Oscar Piastri 2025 ‘curse’
Ahead of the 2025 season, Australian burger chain Grill’d partnered with Piastri to create a limited-edition black bun, wagyu burger. The collaboration kicked off at the first race of the season in Australia, with Grill’d bringing the special dish into the Melbourne paddock.
In September, the fast food restaurant announced a promotion where they would give out free bonus burger coupons every Monday after Piastri had claimed a podium over the weekend.
Following the Italian Grand Prix during the first weekend of September, the Aussie led the championship by 31 points from his teammate Norris, before a string of bad luck saw Piastri off the podium for the next six grands prix.
Quickly, a social media fan theory began gaining traction amongst Australian fans, with Grill’d releasing a lighthearted apology on social media, reading: “To everyone who believes in the ‘Curse’, we’d like to apologise” before adding: “We never meant to create a burger so delicious it would change the course of F1 history”.
Grill’d went on to release a ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ curse merch line, as well as putting up a billboard in Piastri’s hometown.
Oscar Piastri’s McLaren future after links to Ferrari and Red Bull

The Aussie reportedly faced discomfort with the team in 2025, with relationships souring further at the Italian Grand Prix when McLaren ordered Piastri to hand P2 back to Norris after a failed pit stop. Just weeks later, the team blamed him for crashing into his teammate at the start of the United States Grand Prix Sprint race.
After a difficult end to the season, Piastri has now reportedly set a date to decide his McLaren future, with the Aussie being linked with a potential move to Ferrari or Red Bull in the coming years. Fred Vasseur has allegedly already added Piastri to a four-driver shortlist to replace Lewis Hamilton if the seven-time world champion opts to leave Ferrari at the end of the 2027 season.
