Oliver Bearman made his debut in Formula 1 in 2025, and believes his racing career has helped him adapt to the new 2026 regulations.

After an impressive debut season with Haas last year, Oliver Bearman has to get his head around the new regulations that have been introduced into Formula 1 in 2026.

With the new power units and aerodynamics that have been introduced to the series, Bearman has to adapt to the new style of Formula 1 cars after learning the old style in 2025.

However, the British driver is hopeful he has an advantage over the majority of the field when it comes to adjusting to the new regulations.

Big regulation changes are ‘normal’ for Oliver Bearman

At the end of the first week of the Bahrain Test, Bearman found himself inside the top ten in the VF-26, alongside his experienced teammate, Esteban Ocon.

When returning to the Bahrain International Circuit for the second week of testing, Bearman discussed the new 2026 Formula 1 regulations with Sky Sports Germany.

The 20-year-old explained how he believes the new regulations will suit him, as he is used to ‘big category changes’ during his racing career.

When asked if being an inexperienced Formula 1 driver has aided his adaptation to the new F1 regulations, Bearman said, “I hope so, that would be nice, I am used to changing the car concept or category every year.

“The only time I did two years in the same category was in Formula 2. But even in Formula 2, the car changed between my first and second years.

“So, I am used to big category changes or regulation changes, so it is actually a bit more normal for me.”

Oliver Bearman could secure a Ferrari seat in 2027

After his successful rookie season, Bearman has attracted a lot of attention as he outperformed Ocon in his first year in the series.

The British driver has been a part of the Ferrari Drivers Academy since 2022, and it is believed he could become a future Ferrari driver in the near future.

Ahead of the second week of the Bahrain Formula 1 Test, Ralf Schumacher sang Bearman’s praises and stated that he believes Bearman could become part of a Ferrari ‘super team’ with Charles Leclerc.

Although Bearman has been linked to a drive with the Scuderia in the near future, Bearman has admitted that he has not discussed his future with Ferrari yet. However, he has raced for Ferrari once before at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as he replaced Carlos Sainz.

This replacement drive became the British driver’s debut in Formula 1, and he scored points as he finished in seventh place.
