Oliver Bearman has had to explain the difficulties he has experienced during his time at Haas to Ferrari.
For the 2025 Formula 1 season, Oliver Bearman entered the championship full-time as he signed for Haas after making one appearance as a Formula 1 driver in 2024.
The British driver had been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy during his junior career, and did get one appearance for the Scuderia in Saudi Arabia during the 2024 season.
However, his full-time debut in the sport came with Haas, who also use the Ferrari power unit, but are substantially less supported than Ferrari themselves.
What does Oliver Bearman need to do to become a Ferrari driver in 2027?
Oliver Bearman reveals the ‘struggles’ he has experienced at Haas
Whilst discussing his ‘dialogue’ with Ferrari whilst driving for Haas on the High Performance podcast, Bearman revealed he has to explain his ‘struggles’ to the Scuderia.
The British driver discussed the differences he has noticed at Haas after his one-off appearance as a replacement driver for Ferrari, with the structures of the two teams varying very drastically.
Bearman said, “The dialogue remained very open throughout the year, and will continue to stay like that as long as I am affiliated with Ferrari. I think it was very important for me to make clear what I was going through at Haas; there are some differences between a team like Ferrari and Haas.
“The scale is on a different level, having done that race for Ferrari, and having a lot of support with extra staff in the team, and extra help in a way. Then you get to Haas, and it is a different structure in a way. As a rookie, I felt like I was having to learn on the job a bit more than at a team like Ferrari, and that is a given because of the size of the teams.

“I felt like I had to make clear the struggles I was going through with Haas to Ferrari, because you see the results, and that does not tell the full story, not even half of it. That was important, and what they tell me is what they want to see from me, where they want to see me improve, which is what you can imagine, drive a bit quicker every weekend.”
“I think they take a good view of everything. There is always a good dialogue… There have been some tough moments, and it was important for me to get across what I was going through. Being with a bigger team is a huge challenge, a team that can fight at the front, you are expected to perform on any given day, the pressure is higher, but they have a bit more structure in place to help you learn and grow.”
Oliver Bearman has only just finished his rookie season. Is he ready to replace Lewis Hamilton for 2027?
Does Bearman listen to the rumours placing him at Ferrari?
Bearman had an impressive rookie season in Formula 1 as he beat his teammate Esteban Ocon during the 2025 season.
With his links to Ferrari and his performance in 2025, Bearman has been linked to a move to Ferrari for 2027 as a potential Lewis Hamilton replacement.
When asked how much attention he pays to Ferrari rumours, Bearman said, “Zero, nothing. I think I have been lucky to have gotten that call two years ago to do the race. Since then, there have been those rumours and those things coming out. So, it is kind of just normal.
“I don’t go out looking for them, and my focus is not on those; it is on the current project, and hopefully, we can do good things in 2026.”
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has backed Bearman to be a part of a ‘super team’ at Ferrari in the future with Charles Leclerc.
