Nico Rosberg makes worrying Max Verstappen prediction after Singapore Grand Prix ‘perfection’

The British national anthem played out over the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday evening as McLaren star Lando Norris secured the third victory of his Formula 1 career.

Lando Norris was joined on the podium by McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri but they were split by a man fighting tooth and nail to cling onto his position in the Drivers’ Championship.

Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team didn’t have much hope going into the Singapore Grand Prix.

Last season, Verstappen was knocked out of qualifying by Liam Lawson and could only recover to fifth on his way to his third world title.

Things didn’t look good after Friday’s practice sessions, but Red Bull made a key fix to their car that immediately improved their performance.

It didn’t help Sergio Perez that much as he failed to reach Q3 and could only squeeze into the points with a 10^th-place finish.

However, Verstappen made sure Norris couldn’t close the gap too much by following him across the finish line, albeit more than 20 seconds back.

Nico Rosberg was speaking after the race, via Sky.de, and praised the Dutchman for his brilliant driving across the weekend.

However, Rosberg sent a warning to Verstappen for the rest of the season that he won’t want to hear.

He believes that the 26-year-old may not win another race this season, given Red Bull’s gap to McLaren and Ferrari.

That can only benefit Norris as long as he makes the most of his advantage over the rest of the grid.

Talking about Verstappen’s chances this season, Rosberg said: “I’m not convinced they [Red Bull] can win any more races this year, as far away as they are right now.

“They made the most of it this weekend. Max’s lap in qualifying was perfection.

“He hit every apex perfectly to get second place. He has to come second every time, then he’ll be world champion.

“But that’s not possible either, you have Oscar Piastri and maybe a Ferrari.

“Mercedes less so right now, but that’s very difficult for Max. Norris can win all the races, I don’t see why not.”

Verstappen was told by Helmut Marko that Norris would be vulnerable from the race start in Singapore but the Brit finally led a lap after starting from pole position.

It meant Verstappen had to try and stay on the back of the McLaren but once Norris was asked to pull out a gap he did so with ease.

Both drivers ran for as long as possible before pitting and Verstappen eventually yielded first.

However, Verstappen was furious to come out behind Charles Leclerc as he hoped to try and make a small dent in Norris’s lead.

Martin Brundle had to explain that Verstappen didn’t need to be annoyed over the team radio as Leclerc hadn’t pitted yet and wasn’t in the same race as him.

Arguably, he should have been; however, both of Ferrari’s drivers made mistakes in Q3, ending their hopes of finishing on the podium.

Verstappen is the only driver on the grid who never seems to make those mistakes and that’s what he needs to rely on to win a fourth world championship.
