Naomi Schiff simply can’t ‘understand’ something she just heard Lewis Hamilton say at the British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton was left gutted by how close he came to extending his incredible British Grand Prix podium streak.

For the first time since 2013, Lewis Hamilton was unable to finish in the top three at the British Grand Prix.

An unbelievably unpredictable race was dominated by McLaren as they continue to extend their lead at the top of the constructors’ championship.

However, it was all to play for behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and for the first time in 239 races, Nico Hulkenberg finally broke his podium duck.

After getting caught up in the drama occurring in the middle of the pack, Hamilton’s Ferrari eventually emerged in fourth.

Damon Hill was quick to praise Hamilton for his move on Pierre Gasly, suggesting he was rolling back the years with his performance in the SF-25.

Fred Vasseur’s team didn’t cover themselves in glory with their strategy calls, but Naomi Schiff doesn’t believe that was the reason for his podium drought at Ferrari continuing.

Instead, she was keen to give credit to those drivers who pulled off ‘special’ performances at Silverstone.

Naomi Schiff disagrees with Lewis Hamilton’s reasoning for missing out on the British Grand Prix podium

Schiff was reviewing the race for Sky Sports F1 (6/7 6:02 pm), and when looking back at Hamilton’s performance, she said: “Yeah, look, it was not the way that Ferrari, especially Lewis Hamilton, would have wanted this race to go.

“They had so much potential all weekend long, but the part I didn’t understand was Lewis.

“I know he was saying that it was strategy, but it was more that he was affected by those who were doing something special, like the likes of Hulkenberg and Stroll.

“And then I know he had a moment when Gasly got past. But, in actual fact, if you look at the strategy he ran, as opposed to the strategy of Norris, Piastri, [and] Verstappen, he did exactly the same thing, especially on those first two changes.

“So, I think he was saying that clearly the car’s tricky to drive, and that’s where I think he really lost out was pure pace today on track.

“He just didn’t get on with that car.”

Hamilton lamented a ‘pretty bad’ ending to the British Grand Prix on the team radio, but still managed to match his best result since joining Ferrari, excluding Sprint Races.

Charles Leclerc said Hamilton was the only positive from the race, after he missed out on points following some terrible strategy calls and several mistakes made throughout the race.

Speaking in his official post-race press conference, Hamilton said: “Not the result we were hoping for today, but we’re continuing to grow as a team, and I’m also getting more in tune with the car.

“Third place felt within reach at times, but credit to Nico on his first podium, he drove a strong race.

“Silverstone always puts on a great show, and the changing weather definitely made things interesting.

“Big thanks to the amazing crowd for all the support this weekend, it is always great to be home.”

Nigel Mansell believes Hamilton is gaining momentum at Ferrari, and he’ll be hoping that the team’s upcoming update packages will make the Scuderia even more competitive before the end of the season.
