Max Verstappen tells F1 bosses to leave a gap in 2027 calendar for his GT3 racing plans

Max Verstappen has urged Formula 1 bosses to leave a gap in the 2027 calendar for his GT3 racing plans.

Verstappen, 28, is already one of the best drivers in F1 history, having won four world championships in a row from 2021 to 2024.

However, Verstappen’s reign was halted by Lando Norris in 2025, who secured his maiden world title.

Away from his F1 career, the Dutchman has dived into the world of GT3 racing, making his Nurburgring 24 Hours debut earlier in the month.

However, Verstappen was left ‘absolutely gutted’ after a late issue denied him and teammates Daniel Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer victory.

After the event, Verstappen vowed to race around the Nurburgring again, but his return could depend on whether the F1 calendar allows.

As reported by RacingNews365, Verstappen recently spoke to Dutch media outlet Viaplay about next year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours event.

The 28-year-old was asked whether he has enough ‘power’ to ensure F1 alter the 2027 calendar around his GT3 plans.

In response, Verstappen said: “Not power, but I think it would be nice and logical if that were possible.

“Well, we’ll see. I don’t know.”

When asked whether his first experience of the 24-hour race had left him wanting more, Verstappen added: “Yes, absolutely. That was always the goal, of course.

“This is just the beginning. It would have been nice if we had won that race straight away, because that chance was very high.”

With Verstappen fully invested in GT3 racing, the uncertainties over his F1 future will continue to grow.

Recently, the four-time world champion admitted that things must change for him to want to return to F1 next year.

Speaking during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, where he finished third, Verstappen claimed that the current regulations are ‘mentally not doable’ for him.

He said: “If it stays like this, it’s going to be a long year next year that I don’t want. It’s just mentally not doable for me to stay like this. It’s really not. There’s a lot of other fun things out there.”
