There was an awful lot of talk about driver movements during the Belgian Grand Prix, but the focus was on drivers currently fighting to save their seats rather than looking for opportunities in 2025.
Sergio Perez didn’t do much to impress Red Bull falling back from the front row of the grid to eventually finish 7th, however, his seat appears to be safe for now until the end of the season.
At the back of the grid, Ted Kravitz questioned if Logan Sargeant had taken part in his final qualifying session during the Belgian Grand Prix.
There are still a handful of seats that need to be filled ahead of the 2025 season.
Mercedes haven’t made any movements yet on replacing Lewis Hamilton but youngster Kimi Antonelli is improving with each weekend he races in Formula 2 and looks the most likely candidate for that seat.
The Red Bull / RB situation isn’t resolved yet with Daniel Ricciardo’s future uncertain given he still doesn’t have a contract beyond the end of the year.
Sauber appear to be at the back of the list when it comes to finding Nico Hulkenberg’s new teammate given their struggles this season before Audi join the grid in 2026.
That leaves Alpine and talking on Sky Sports F1, former driver and commentator Martin Brundle suggested one driver is already ahead of his potential rivals to join Pierre Gasly next year.
Brundle was talking about Jack Doohan, who despite taking a year out of racing to concentrate on being the team’s reserve driver this year, has impressed behind the scenes at Enstone.
Nothing is set in stone and the dynamic of the market could change at any moment.

Martin Brundle thinks Jack Doohan is in ‘pole position’ to drive for Alpine in 2025
Talking about the driver situation at Alpine, Chandhok said: “Do we think Jack Doohan is going to be there next year?”
Brundle replied: “Well, he’s certainly in pole position. I mean he’s been their simulator driver, he’s been their test driver, he’s in the car again after this race for some testing.

“If there’s a space at Alpine which we know there is as Ocon has gone to Haas, then he’s got to be a contender for that.
“But I’m sure they’re also trying to get Carlos Sainz who could be in three or four different teams right now.”

Who else could Alpine hire to partner Pierre Gasly in 2025?
Alpine are running out of options in the driver’s market as they look to replace Esteban Ocon.
Doohan is available but has been unlucky that both his FP1 runs this year have been disrupted by treacherous weather conditions.
Mick Schumacher is still desperate to return to Formula 1 and is currently a part of the Alpine World Endurance Championship team.
Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu will both be assessing their very limited options on the grid too with Audi still looking elsewhere.
However, from the available options, Doohan will fancy his chances, especially considering how closely he’s worked with the team throughout the year given they now know his strengths and weaknesses.
