McLaren wrapped up the 2025 constructors’ championship at the Singapore Grand Prix. However, their celebrations were perhaps overshadowed by contact between their drivers.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri came home to finish third and fourth respectively, as George Russell claimed victory. Despite Mercedes outscoring McLaren, the Woking outfit put enough points on the board to secure their second consecutive constructors’ title.

However, major controversy on lap one dominated the talking points from the team at the Singapore Grand Prix as Norris and Piastri came to blows. The latter qualified third and was looking for a bounce back after a disastrous race in Baku.

The Aussie got a good start, but Norris got the jump on him and Kimi Antonelli from P5. He went into turn three alongside his teammate when he made contact with the rear of Max Verstappen.

This left the Brit sliding into Piastri as the two banged wheels. Norris kept the position and moved into third, much to the frustration of his McLaren teammate.

Martin Brundle felt Lando Norris’ move on Oscar Piastri was ‘aggressive’ but there was no issue with it

The stewards found no wrongdoing in the overtaking after an investigation. Piastri was furious over his radio as he seemed to ask McLaren to hand him the position back.

But commentator Martin Brundle felt that would have been hard to ‘justify’. Speaking via Sky Sports F1, he stated that the pair were simply racing, even if Norris’ move was ‘aggressive’.

“I don’t think… I called it. That’s how I called it at the time. I thought it was punchy, opportunistic, aggressive,” said Brundle.

“But this is a motor race. As I say, the ground rules have just been reset there, and I can’t see how McLaren can swap that around, why they would justify that.

“But Oscar will be [like]: “OK, so that‘s it then, is it? That’s how we’re going racing?”

“McLaren want to get the constructors’ done, then they can worry about swapping drivers thereafter.”

What Lando Norris said about Oscar Piastri collision immediately after the Singapore Grand Prix

Norris and Piastri’s contact in Singapore is the latest conflict between the McLaren duo as they fight to win the 2025 title. There are now 22 points separating the pair with six races to go.

Norris felt it was ‘racing’ as he reacted to his collision with Piastri in parc ferme. He pointed out the slippery track conditions in the early stages, as it briefly rained before the race.

McLaren fans told Piastri to ‘stop crying’ as they fumed over his complaints on the radio. The team and the FIA felt there was no problem with Norris’ move; the Brit has now beaten his teammate for the third race in a row.

Jenson Button thinks Piastri is feeling the pressure of fighting for the title. He cannot afford to let his steely demeanour slip with six races to go.
