McLaren driver Lando Norris had to settle for third place at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, but still put a dent in his teammate Oscar Piastri’s championship lead.
Going into the race, Oscar Piastri had a 25-point advantage over Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship.
The Australian had outqualified his teammate, with Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli between them, while George Russell put it on pole position in Singapore.
However, the biggest talking point of the race was the first sequence of corners, where Norris got his elbows out and showed how desperate he is to win his first championship.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 324 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | 299 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 255 |
| 4 | George Russell | 212 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 165 |
| 6 | Lewis Hamilton | 121 |
| 7 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 78 |
| 8 | Alexander Albon | 70 |
| 9 | Isack Hadjar | 39 |
| 10 | Nico Hulkenberg | 37 |
After getting past Antonelli, Norris bumped the back of Verstappen’s car before hitting Piastri’s wheels, forcing his way through in the process.
McLaren fans gave their verdict on the Piastri and Norris incident, but the championship leader never got within touching distance of his teammate after a slow pit stop.
Norris was speaking after the race at the Singapore Grand Prix and gave his immediate verdict on the incident.
It’s hard to believe that Piastri will agree with his take on how the opening lap played out.

Lando Norris addresses Oscar Piastri collision immediately after finishing the Singapore Grand Prix
Norris was asked how he was feeling in an interview with Jenson Button, via Sky Sports F1 (5/10 2:57 pm), having felt ill earlier in the weekend, and he said: “Not too bad, I could go again!
“I mean, it was a tough race. Max didn’t make any mistakes; whether I was feeling good or not, I gave it my all today.
“Got close, a few chances where it was side-by-side and some good little bits of battling, but yeah, like I said, just too difficult to overtake, which is a shame as the pace was very strong today, and yeah, I would have loved to catch George and given him a little bit more pressure.
“I’m happy with today, I got forward two positions, we won in the constructors’ as a team once again, so I’m most happy about that.”
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | George Russell | Mercedes | 25 |
| 2 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 18 |
| 3 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 15 |
| 4 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 12 |
| 5 | Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes | 10 |
| 6 | Charles Leclerc | Ferrari | 8 |
| 7 | Fernando Alonso | Aston Martin | 6 |
| 8 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari | 4 |
| 9 | Oliver Bearman | Haas | 2 |
| 10 | Carlos Sainz | Williams | 1 |
Norris was then asked about the first lap incident and continued: “Yeah, I mean, it was slippery, it was still wet in a lot of places.
“But, it’s racing. I put it on the inside. I had a small correction, but, yeah, nothing more than that.
“It was good racing and like I said, I wish I could have given it a little bit more, I wish there were a few more overtaking opportunities today, but I feel like I did everything I could today and I’m happy with that.”

McLaren seal the constructors’ championship at the Singapore Grand Prix
Norris and Piastri both finishing in the top four means that McLaren are constructors’ championship winners with six race weekends to go.
Their lead over Mercedes is incredible, and while Red Bull’s record points tally might be out of reach, they’ve been the dominant force towards the end of the current era of Formula 1.
The pressure now falls on Piastri’s shoulders, with only a 21-point buffer between himself and Norris heading into the United States Grand Prix.
Speaking about the achievement after the race, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said: “They have driven brilliantly all season. You can’t win the constructors’ without two awesome racing drivers.
“As you can see, we are letting them race. That was a bit more of a nail-biter there, but they race hard, they race clean, they race to win.
“A lot of racing to go and hopefully a lot more victories for both of them.”
All eyes are on the final six races and how McLaren will let their drivers race, particularly as the threat of Verstappen hasn’t gone away.
