Oscar Piastri has extended his lead in the drivers’ championship with his seventh win of the 2025 season at the Dutch Grand Prix.
The Aussie commanded the race from start to finish as he led every lap from pole position. Piastri gained a ‘psychological advantage’ over Lando Norris as he beat him to pole by just 12 thousandths of a second.
Piastri navigated through the unpredictable conditions and several safety car stoppages to claim victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. He was given a major boost for his championship hopes as Norris suffered an engine failure in the closing stages.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 284 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | 275 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 187 |
| 4 | George Russell | 172 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 151 |
| 6 | Lewis Hamilton | 109 |
| 7 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 64 |
| 8 | Alexander Albon | 54 |
| 9 | Nico Hulkenberg | 37 |
| 10 | Esteban Ocon | 27 |
The Brit had been chasing down his teammate after losing out to Max Verstappen at the start. But a power unit failure put an end to his charge as he now falls 34 points behind Piastri in the standings.
Piastri said Norris was ‘incredibly unfortunate’ to retire at the Dutch GP as he stepped out of the car in parc ferme. The race marks the 24-year-old’s ninth win in Formula 1 since making his debut with McLaren in 2023.

Mark Webber draws comparison to Daniel Ricciardo as Oscar Piastri levels his F1 win record at the Dutch Grand Prix
The victory now puts Piastri level with his manager Mark Webber for race wins. The former Red Bull driver achieved all of his wins with the Milton Keynes outfit as he battled for the championship in the 2010s.
Speaking after the race to Sky Sports (31/08, 4:19 pm), Webber described Piastri’s win as ‘magnificent’ and a ‘big day for Australian motorsport’. He drew a comparison to Daniel Ricciardo as he surpassed his win tally of eight victories.
| Driver | Grand Prix starts | Wins |
| Oscar Piastri | 61 | 9 |
| Mark Webber | 215 | 9 |
| Daniel Ricciardo | 257 | 8 |
“Oh, magnificent. Obviously, he drove so well today. As you know, I don’t do many interviews about him, but I think today, big day for Australian motorsport.
“We’ve had Daniel win plenty, obviously Jack and AJ. Oscar now, having this success so early in his career is a real credit to him. He’s put a huge amount of work in, executing beautifully and the team have done such a good job as well.
“I’m happy. We’ve had a lot of banter between the two of us, a lot of p—taking. But he’s on me now, and I’m very, very, very happy. Hopefully he’s going to keep going.”

Naomi Schiff says Mark Webber will be ‘hurt’ by Oscar Piastri levelling his F1 win record
F1 pundit Naomi Schiff gave her thoughts on Piastri matching Webber’s record after the race. She labelled the latter as ‘instrumental’ to the former’s career, but wondered if he would be ‘hurt’ by having his win tally equalled already by his talent.
“Well, firstly, I have to say, great vibes between Mark Webber and his young driver Oscar Piastri,” she said.
“For him to be already equalling his victories as this short stage of his career, that’s got to hurt for Mark.
“But I also think that the two of them make such a good team and I think he’s been instrumental as well for Oscar this early in his career to help him, give him advice, push him in the right direction and he’s going to be a tough competitor with thanks to Mark.”
