Lewis Hamilton has spent his whole career at front-running Formula 1 teams, revealing the biggest difference he sees ‘every day’ at Ferrari.
The sporting world was stunned upon the news that Hamilton would drive for Ferrari in 2025, after a highly successful 12-year stint at Mercedes that saw him become a seven-time world champion.
Susie Wolff recently revealed Toto Wolff’s private reaction to Hamilton’s move, which highlighted the personal relationships that he had developed as he became accustomed to the day-to-day workings at the Brackley factory.
The biggest motive for the 40-year-old was his desire to claim an elusive eighth world title. He felt like the Scuderia was the best-placed team on the grid to aid him in his hunt.

Having now spent time with three of the biggest names in F1, McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari, the 105-time Grand Prix winner was asked how the Prancing Horse compares to them in an interview with Ferrari’s official site.
Hamilton said, “The others are a bit less… colourful. They all have their qualities, but Italians wear their emotions more obviously, for good and bad, but mostly for the good, I think.
“You see the passion every day, in the way Italians talk about food, for example. In England, you don’t get excited talking about fish and chips, you know?”
Hamilton’s first test for Ferrari at their private Fiorano testing facility provided him with his first taste of the passion that the Tifosi hold in their hearts for the iconic Italian racing outfit.
The event was reportedly chaotic, with fans turning up in the early hours of the morning to catch a glimpse of their new hero. The turnout was even bigger than Ferrari’s unveiling of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc during their first appearance at the circuit.

Lewis Hamilton highlights how ‘not many people’ truly understand how F1 works
The Ferrari star was also asked about his prior thoughts on how big his move to Italy would be. Already a household name through the numerous records and feats he had collected during his F1 career, the transfer was seen to have been one of the biggest in the sport’s history.
“It’s beautiful and there have been plenty of positives, although a lot of responsibility and weight comes with it,” he said. “Everyone expects to win straight away, but ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.'”
He was then asked if everyone else is aware of how much time it takes for an F1 team to reach their final form, to which he replied, “And that’s not many people. Only when you’re inside a team can you really, truly understand how it works and how F1 works.
“You can’t imagine how the machine really operates otherwise. I’ve been in F1 for so long, but when I came to this team it really was different again.”
After a brief pause, he continued with, “So I don’t blame people for not knowing. All I can do is continue to focus on the things that I can control.
“How I prepare and work with the team. How I show up each day and stay positive.”
Whilst his debut season with the team hasn’t showcased the natural talent that has aided him in his quest to become a seven-time title winner, former Ferrari driver Esteban Gutierrez has tipped Hamilton to make another step up during his sophomore year with the Scuderia.
