Lewis Hamilton told he is missing a vital ingredient in his relationship with one Ferrari colleague

Lewis Hamilton is a few weeks away from being able to sign off from a very difficult first season with Ferrari.

A year that will bring him sixth place in the drivers’ championship has also seen him fail to reach the podium in a season for the first time in his career (so far). Ferrari still have four more chances to get him onto the rostrum, but it’s a tough ask amid an intense three-way title fight.

Hamilton’s current deal with the Scuderia runs until the end of 2026, with a one-year extension option being held. Depending on how he performs over the next 12 months, his Formula 1 career could come to an end.

Hamilton won’t adapt to difficult Ferrari setups, according to insiders of the team. Sometimes, his patience can wear thin. It was shown in Mexico when Hamilton snapped at a ridiculous demand to lift and coast during the Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has ‘no chemistry’ with Ferrari race engineer Riccardo Adami

Ferrari have made up their minds on Hamilton, with senior paddock figures suggesting that the team won’t pick up his extension option next year. There’s a whole host of potential candidates to replace him, but the seven-time champion has a chance to prove himself with the new regulations first.

Despite his struggles over the last few years, Hamilton has changed Formula 1’s reputation, and it’s something that friend Susie Wolff believes he deserves more credit for. He’s part of why the sport’s fanbase has grown so much in recent years.

But the reason why he races is because he wants to win, which is something which feels far away right now. Robert Doornbos believes that part of the 40-year-old’s issue is that he has ‘no chemistry’ with his race engineer, Riccardo Adami.

“I think because there is just no chemistry between the engineer and the driver,” he said. “The communication between Lewis and Ricky [Adami], his engineer, it just doesn’t feel like they’re switched on to each other.

“It’s Ricky saying, ‘We’ve got a 10-second [penalty] because of this and this situation.’ Lewis said ‘Yeah, but it was very difficult to stay on.’ We know Lewis. I don’t think they’re really on it.”

Why Lewis Hamilton should be feared during the 2026 Formula 1 season

With the exception of the current era of cars, every time a new set of regulations has been introduced, Hamilton has always been one of the quickest drivers to adapt.

Of the big changes in his career, 2009 was tough, but he still found a way to win races in a poor McLaren car.

2014 brought him a second title, and 2017, which were sweeping alterations, produced a fourth triumph.

It’s a testament to his versatility, adaptability, and skill that he finds a way to win with new regulations so frequently. It’s one of the main reasons why he cannot be discounted for 2026 just yet.
