Ferrari lead Mercedes by only one single point in their fight for second place in the F1 constructors’ standings in Lewis Hamilton’s first term since leaving the Silver Arrows.

The 40-year-old bounced out of Brackley after 12 campaigns and moved to Maranello ahead of the 2025 F1 season. Now, Hamilton finds himself helping Ferrari fight against the team for whom he won six of his seven drivers’ titles entering the last four rounds of this season’s 24.

Ferrari rank second in the F1 constructors’ championship with 356 points through 20 rounds to Mercedes’ 355 and Red Bull’s 346 for fourth place. Hamilton has scored 146 of Ferrari’s points so far this term, while Charles Leclerc has penned 210 and all seven of their podiums.

While Hamilton won the F1 Sprint in China during round two this March, he is yet to reach a Grand Prix podium with the Scuderia. Leclerc’s P2 in the Mexico City Grand Prix added to his P2 in Monaco plus P3 finishes in Saudi Arabia, Spain, Austria, Belgium and the United States.

Nobody at Ferrari will talk about their ‘anxiety’ to win a Grand Prix in 2025 easing

Ferrari are the only one of F1’s top four teams yet to win a Grand Prix during 2025. McLaren have to date scored seven wins through Oscar Piastri and six through Lando Norris, Red Bull have won five with Max Verstappen, and Mercedes have won twice through George Russell.

Yet Motorsport.com reports that the ‘anxiety’ to register their first win of the season has now ‘subsided’ at the Ferrari factory. But ‘nobody’ at the Scuderia wants to talk about the unease about them being winless easing before the races in Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari’s pre-race simulations for the upcoming Sao Paulo Grand Prix on November 7-9 have helped to ease the tension in Maranello. The pride of Italy’s data suggests the SF-25 may be capable of performing well at Interlagos, should Leclerc and Hamilton pick the right set-ups.

Engineers in Maranello are still scratching their heads about what the absolute potential of the SF-25 is. But Leclerc qualifying P2 and Hamilton P3 for the Mexico City GP last weekend, along with the former finishing the race in P2, has helped build optimism for the final races.

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton showed the Ferrari SF-25’s pace in Mexico City

Leclerc’s ability to adapt to Ferrari’s set-ups based on their pre-race simulations has proven key to the Monegasque finding pace in the SF-25, while Hamilton has tended to need more time to adjust. But both Ferrari stars qualified well at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

McLaren ace Norris scored pole in Mexico City with a 1:15.586, ahead of Leclerc in P2 with a 1:15.848 and Hamilton in P3 with a 1:15.938. It marked Hamilton’s best qualifying result as a Ferrari driver to date, but a 10-second penalty for leaving the track led to him finishing in P8.

Leclerc utilised a late VSC to hold off Verstappen for P2 in the Mexico City GP, without which the Red Bull ace would likely have stolen second place over the final laps last Sunday. Ferrari will now hope their promising pre-race simulations for Brazil can precede a first win of 2025.
