Aston Martin could be active in the Formula 1 driver market for the 2027 season, and they could be the ones to save Esteban Ocon’s career.

The Frenchman is facing a bleak situation at Haas. He has been widely outperformed by Ollie Bearman, and with his contract expiring in 2026, he is likely to leave the team.

In fact, it is believed that Ocon’s exit from Haas is already done, with multiple drivers gunning for his seat. He is under immense pressure to stay on the F1 grid, but Lawrence Stroll could be his saving grace.

Are Aston Martin below ‘F1 standards’ right now, or is Guenther Steiner being unfair?

Fernando Alonso is considering his F1 future, with his contract expiring in 2026. According to RacingNews365, he does not want to commit to Aston Martin if there is no hope of improving their current fortunes.

Alonso is being linked with Alpine, with manager and team boss Flavio Briatore keen to bring him back to Enstone. But the Spaniard could be enticed by Stroll’s ‘generous compensation package’, with the Canadian being keen to keep him.

If Alonso is to leave, Aston Martin seem to have identified a potential replacement. The report notes there is a ‘strong possibility’ that Ocon could join the team in 2027.

Discussions are still ongoing between the Frenchman and Haas, but it is widely expected that the two parties will part ways at the end of 2026. Should that happen, Aston Martin could provide a safety blanket.

He could be a replacement for Alonso if he decides to leave the team. Ocon’s chances are also helped by the fact that he has a close friendship with the Spaniard’s teammate, Lance Stroll.

It is said that, even if Alonso stays with Aston Martin, Ocon’s chances of joining the team are strong. ‘Rumours circulating in the paddock’ suggest that he could sign as a reserve driver for 2027, with the view to a permanent seat in 2028.

‘Sources’ say that other teams are ‘ready’ to give Ocon a similar deal, but Aston Martin could be the perfect place for him to get his career back on track. Furthermore, if Adrian Newey can fix their woes, he could be in a competitive position should he return to a full-time seat.
