Lando Norris now boasts his biggest lead atop the 2025 F1 drivers’ standings all year after the McLaren racer registered the perfect weekend at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old now has a 24-point margin atop the standings over papaya pal Oscar Piastri after winning the F1 Sprint and Grand Prix in Brazil. It is the first time that Norris has done a double and, to add even more shine to his trophies, he scored both wins from pole position.
Norris won the Sao Paulo Sprint on Saturday by just 0.845 seconds ahead of Mercedes gem Andrea Kimi Antonelli. A 10.388s margin separated the same duo last Sunday, as Norris won the Sao Paulo GP and Antonelli held off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen for his career-best result.
Fortunes were rather contrasting across the McLaren garage at Interlagos, as Piastri crashed out of the Sao Paulo Sprint and he only took P5 in the Grand Prix. Piastri’s 10s penalty in the Sao Paulo GP denied the 24-year-old a likely P2 finish, and led to his third P5 result in a row.

Lando Norris is starting to get ‘fed up’ after fans booed when he won in Mexico and Brazil
But while Norris produced the perfect weekend on the circuit in Brazil, the fans at Interlagos overshadowed the McLaren man’s celebrations. Fans booed Norris straight after he won the Sao Paulo Sprint and while he received his trophy on the podium for winning the Grand Prix.

It was not the first time that Norris had been booed after winning a race, either. Fans booed Norris when he won the Mexico City Grand Prix, with the general consensus being that they are showing their displeasure at how McLaren imposed team orders in Italy this September.
And, having now been booed in Mexico and Brazil, Blick reports that Norris is starting to get ‘fed up’ with fans jeering him on the podium. Additionally, the publication notes that Norris has received some ‘nasty’ comments from fans amid his battle with Piastri over the F1 title.
What has Lando Norris said about F1 fans booing him after winning races?
It is believed that fans are booing as McLaren told Piastri to give Norris back P2 in the Italian Grand Prix. Piastri undercut Norris at Monza owing to the latter having a slower pit stop, yet McLaren had assured the Briton that he would stay in front if he let the Australian stop first.

Yet while the jeers are not necessarily aimed directly at Norris, but rather towards McLaren, the booing has started to rub the Bristol-born star the wrong way in private. Norris chose to play down the boos when instantly questioned on it after the incidents in Mexico and Brazil.
After letting out an awkward laugh upon hearing the rising number of boos coming from the crowd in Mexico, Norris said in the post-race interviews: “I’m happy. I’m focused on myself, I keep my head down, I ignore all of this and it’s working at the moment. So, I’m happy.”
Norris also adopted a similar stance during the post-race interviews after the Sao Paulo GP. He noted on Sunday: “Just ignore everyone that talks c— about you! Just focus on yourself.”
In the past, Norris has also urged fans not to boo his rivals. F1 headed to Silverstone just one round after Verstappen crashed into Norris during the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, which drew jeers before the 2024 British GP. So, the home hero told fans: “No boos. Max is a lovely guy.”
