Lando Norris was booed again following the conclusion of the Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint race, and Ted Kravitz has shared his theory on why the British driver has continued to receive an icy reaction in recent races.

Norris took his second Sprint victory of 2025 at Interlagos as he benefited from another DNF for Oscar Piastri to take a nine-point lead in the Formula 1 title race.

Piastri was unlucky to crash out of the race on lap eight, with replays showing that he got onto a wet portion of the kerbs located on the exit of turn two that spun him into the barriers.

However, fans were quick to voice their dismay at the McLaren driver taking another win in the closing stages of the current campaign as they booed him upon his presentation as the winner of the race.

Ted Kravitz thinks McLaren’s team orders caused more boos for Lando Norris at the Brazilian Grand Prix

Speaking on Sky Sports F1’s coverage of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix race weekend, pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz shared the immediate reaction of fans during his post-race breakdown.

In a similar vein to what happened in Mexico, fans reportedly booed the British driver as he appeared with Jamie Chadwick on the big screens located around the circuit.

Kravitz noted, “I’ve got to tell you, when he appeared with Jamie Chadwick, there was more booing of Lando in the grandstands. After the FIA animation, when Lando’s face came up in the crowd, there was more booing of Lando.

“I think it’s just because, the same as Mexico, that people don’t appreciate the shenanigans with messing around and wanting the place or asking for the place back, or being given the place back from Oscar in Monza.

“That seems to be what it is; it seems to have gone down badly. So nothing against Lando personally, but the papaya rules thing seems to have played badly with the crowd in Mexico and in Brazil as well.

The mood of local fans took a turn after Gabriel Bortoleto experienced a scary crash at turn one in the dying stages of the Sprint.

In a shocking scene of events, the Brazilian driver caught airtime as he slammed into the barriers in front of the local fans in the run-off area. Thankfully, the 21-year-old was quick to communicate to his team that he was unharmed in the incident.

Lando Norris was also booed following his win at the Mexico City Grand Prix

As alluded to by Kravitz, the reason for the boos directed at Norris comes from F1 fans’ distaste at McLaren’s previous team orders at the Italian Grand Prix in September.

The frustration is based around the Woking-based team’s interference with the order of the cars during the Grand Prix, in which Piastri was told to give back his second-place position to Norris following a slow pit stop from McLaren engineers.

Norris responded maturely to the jibes he received in Mexico, but has yet to acknowledge them in Brazil. After taking a more commanding lead in the F1 standings than the one he had following the race weekend in Mexico, he currently has bigger things on his mind.

Several figures within the paddock have addressed the behaviour of F1 fans following Norris’ rout in Mexico, with Martin Brundle highlighting how off-putting it is to be the recipient of it.

Despite the noise, Norris hopes to return to action in qualifying, where he will be on the hunt for his second pole position of the weekend.
