With Lewis Hamilton now outperforming Charles Leclerc, Jacques Villeneuve believes Ferrari have a difficult decision to make.

Hamilton’s win in Barcelona marked his first with Ferrari, and the first race win for the team in over 500 days.

Unfortunately for Ferrari, their other car didn’t finish the race, as Charles Leclerc was forced to retire the SF-26 just two laps before the race ended.

Jacques Villeneuve suggests Lewis Hamilton could ‘internally’ surpass Charles Leclerc at Ferrari

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jacques Villeneuve addressed the current situation at Ferrari in the aftermath of Lewis Hamilton’s win in Barcelona.

He believes Hamilton’s success has created a problem for Ferrari, especially in the aftermath of Leclerc signing a new contract extension, about who the number one driver for the team is.

“Internally at Ferrari, they just re-signed Leclerc two races ago for the best contract ever, lifetime contract.

“But who’s actually getting the points, who’s going to the front? Lewis. That will create a little bit of an issue internally as well.

“Lewis is in the hunt for the championship, Leclerc isn’t, so will they need to start making decisions at some point? They will need to put everything in their bag if they want to fight for the championship.”

Lewis Hamilton is starting to show up Charles Leclerc at Ferrari

This season, Hamilton has more podium finishes, and now a race win over Leclerc, who has struggled with poor performances and bad luck this season.

Hamilton is quickly dethroning Leclerc as Ferrari’s king with consistently strong performances this season.

Leclerc has tried copying Hamilton’s approach with his brakes this weekend. And while it made a difference this weekend, it still didn’t do enough to get him a strong result.

Hopefully Leclerc and Ferrari are able to turn things around in the coming races, as the driver is being usurped in his role as the leader of the team.
