Isack Hadjar says Red Bull’s car was so bad that he was ‘genuinely scared’ at Hungarian GP

Despite pulling off a strong performance and helping Max Verstappen, Isack Hadjar did not have a comfortable experience with Red Bull at the Hungaroring.

Hadjar finished P6 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, bringing home a strong result for Red Bull behind Max Verstappen’s sensational P2 finish.

There has been some concern about Hadjar replicating Verstappen’s approach at Red Bull and how that is holding him back.

The notable figures that make up Red Bull’s top brass know that Hadjar is very driven and never satisfied, and that makes him a very useful driver for the team.

But for his great attitude, even Isack Hadjar couldn’t help but point out some of the huge problems he was experiencing with the RB22.

Isack Hadjar’s radio message after the Hungarian GP shows Red Bull have a huge problem

After Isack Hadjar finished the Hungarian Grand Prix, his race engineer was quick to congratulate him on a strong drive en route to a P6 finish.

However, Hadjar took a moment to criticise the car, much like Max Verstappen did, saying that he was genuinely scared at times while driving the RB22 at high speed.

“The car was undrivable at high speed; I was genuinely scared. The downshifts need fixing… The pace on the mediums was just terrible. I don’t know what happened.”

It didn’t just end there, as on Ted’s Notebook, his comments were reiterated by Ted Kravitz, as Hadjar complained about the car yet again.

“This car is so bad, something must be broken. I have no downforce.”

It’s clear that Hadjar was not happy with the way the car was performing, just like Max Verstappen had criticised the RB22 for being undrivable at several points of the season.

Laurent Mekies hints at Isack Hadjar staying with Red Bull

Speaking to De Telegraaf’s Erik van Haren, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies hinted that Isack Hadjar staying with the team beyond this season would be the ‘logical decision’ for them to make.

“It is good news that we have a strong second driver for the first time in quite a long time. That was also one of our goals prior to this season. Isack is performing solidly and has learned a lot from the team and from Max.

“It is good news, also for Max, that our two cars are a bit closer together. We haven’t discussed the future yet, but everyone can see that Isack is doing an excellent job. So we will make a logical decision.”

It appears Red Bull are looking to secure their driver pairing beyond this season, as they even offered Max Verstappen a lucrative new contract extension.

Perhaps Red Bull will be able to convince the Dutch driver to stay with the team, especially now that they have a solid second driver who can help him during races.
