Christian Horner has been linked with joining Aston Martin and a potential reunion with technical director and co-owner Adrian Newey.

Aston Martin have slowly slipped down the pecking order in the past two seasons and failed to score a point at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

In the aftermath of the race, it was reported that Aston Martin are considering replacing Andy Cowell as CEO and team principal.

One of the names being linked with the job is former Red Bull boss Christian Horner.

Horner oversaw incredible success at Red Bull over 20 years, but the team started to fall apart during his last 12 months at Milton Keynes.

Adrian Newey quit Red Bull and ended up being hired by Aston Martin with their upcoming regulation changes in mind.

Now, Horner and Newey could be reunited, and Aston Martin already know how that would go down within the team.

Adrian Newey and Christian Horner would not ‘have a problem’ working together at Aston Martin

A report from ESPN has shared more information about the links between Horner and Aston Martin.

The 52-year-old was a constant in the paddock between the opening race in 2005 and this season’s British Grand Prix before he was sacked.

Horner has agreed a severance package with Red Bull that could see him return to Formula 1 as early as the first half of 2026.

Aston Martin are considering several candidates alongside Horner if they do move Cowell on, but as a stakeholder at Aston Martin, Newey’s opinion would hold some sway on whether his old boss is approached.

Newey was upset about the lack of credit Horner was giving him for Red Bull’s prolonged success before he decided to quit the team.

Despite this, it’s believed by sources familiar with the situation that neither Horner nor Newey ‘would have a problem working with each other again’.

However, there is one more sticking point that might stop Aston Martin moving for Horner, and it comes down to their potential future driver line-up.

What’s Christian Horner and Max Verstappen’s relationship like after his Red Bull sacking?

One of the biggest talking points heading into next year will be the driver market, as everyone begins to assess which teams have nailed the new regulations and which teams are lagging behind.

F1 Oversteer understands that Aston Martin are considering an all-new driver line-up in 2027, with Fernando Alonso considering retirement and question marks over whether Lance Stroll is a strong enough driver to deliver on the team’s goals.

Max Verstappen is among the drivers Aston Martin are considering if they do decide to change their drivers, which isn’t a surprise given his quality.

Max Verstappen 2027 F1 future

Aston Martin will need to prove to the Dutchman that they are a considerably stronger outfit than Red Bull over the coming months, but then it comes down to whether he wants to work in that environment.

Verstappen enjoyed a good working relationship with Newey and has had plenty of success with Honda power units.

ESPN suggest that while Horner and Jos Verstappen’s relationship is ‘frosty’, it’s believed that his son has ‘maintained a good relationship’ with his old boss despite his Red Bull exit.

That could prove pivotal to deciding where Verstappen might go if he feels he needs to leave Red Bull, with Mercedes having spent years chasing his signature.
