Aston Martin could be arriving on the Formula 1 grid in 2027 with a brand new driver line-up for the first time since 2022.
F1 Oversteer understands that Aston Martin are likely to have two new drivers in place once the 2026 campaign comes to an end.
Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso have already been confirmed for the upcoming campaign.
Alonso will be entering a record-breaking 24th season as a Formula 1 driver as he continues to seek his third drivers’ championship.
On the other side of the garage, Stroll will become the 25th driver to reach 200 Grand Prix starts next year, although the Canadian is still searching for his first win.

Aston Martin have big plans for the upcoming F1 regulation changes, and chairman Lawrence Stroll has spared no expense when it comes to placing his team among the favourites for the next era of the sport.
Adrian Newey has been recruited from Red Bull, team principal Andy Cowell was approached by nearly every team on the grid, and the likes of Bob Bell and Enrico Cardile are experienced campaigners behind the scenes.
However, there have always been question marks over whether Aston Martin have the driver line-up to win a championship if they have a competitive enough car, and it looks like Stroll is considering making that change in 2027.

Aston Martin likely to have a brand new driver line-up for the 2027 Formula 1 season
F1 Oversteer sources have suggested that the likelihood that Aston Martin will have two new drivers in 2027 is increasing.
Alonso recently discussed his F1 future, although the team might find it difficult to move the Spaniard on regardless of his age if he finally ends his long wait to add a 33rd win to his CV.
F1 Oversteer previously reported that Aston Martin are exploring taking over a rival team and installing Alonso as team principal.
This is where Stroll’s future may lie, with sources suggesting that the Canadian would be guaranteed a spot on the grid in 2027 due to the backing of his father.
| TEAM | DRIVER 1 | DRIVER 2 |
| Alpine | Pierre Gasly | Franco Colapinto |

| Cadillac | Valtteri Bottas | Sergio Perez |
| Ferrari | Charles Leclerc | Lewis Hamilton |
| Haas | Esteban Ocon | Oliver Bearman |
| McLaren | Lando Norris | Oscar Piastri |
| Mercedes | George Russell | Kimi Antonelli |

The F1 driver market is expected to be chaotic next year, with more than half of the drivers on the grid out of contract.
It’s believed that Aston Martin would act if they thought they could attract any of the likes of Max Verstappen, Lando Norris or Charles Leclerc to the team going forward.
However, much of this hinges on Stroll’s reported plans to take over a second team in the paddock to make space for his son if he wishes to continue in Formula 1 beyond next season.

Which drivers could realistically join Aston Martin for the 2027 Formula 1 season?
If Alonso finally retires from F1 and Stroll does end up moving on, then Aston Martin are in a precarious position.
Realistically, there are very few drivers who wouldn’t be interested in joining Aston Martin, with the opportunity to team up with Newey difficult to turn down.
F1 Oversteer believes Alonso would like to place Gabriel Bortoleto at Aston Martin, although the Brazilian is already attracting interest from other teams.

Verstappen has been linked with Aston Martin in the past, and has enjoyed a very good working relationship with Newey and Honda.
Leclerc is also considering his Ferrari future as he looks to try and make his first serious championship challenge before it’s too late.
There are also concerns that the Norris and Oscar Piastri partnership can’t last forever at McLaren, and one of those drivers could end up on the market.
Aston Martin’s 2026 car is likely to determine how much pulling power Stroll has going into next year’s silly season.
