Gary Anderson ‘would love’ Liam Lawson to make Red Bull comeback as ideal Racing Bulls replacements named

Liam Lawson is enjoying the brightest spell of his Formula 1 career, having scored points in four of the last nine races.

Since Isack Hadjar finished on the podium for Racing Bulls at the Dutch Grand Prix, it’s been Liam Lawson who has been doing the heavy lifting in the fierce constructors’ championship battle.

Lawson achieved his career-best result at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finishing fifth directly ahead of Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda.

The New Zealander then produced an unbelievable performance in Sao Paulo, securing seventh after completing an ambitious one-stop strategy.

Lawson earned a new nickname from his race engineer as a result of his defensive driving, even if he was under serious pressure from Hadjar during the final laps.

Hadjar actually crashed into Lawson on the final lap heading into the first corner, but both cars survived unscathed to secure 10 points and help Racing Bulls extend their lead over Aston Martin, Haas and Sauber in the championship.

Racing Bulls and Red Bull are the only teams yet to confirm their driver line-ups for the 2026 season.

Yuki Tsunoda put in another poor performance in Brazil, and while it’s currently expected that Hadjar will be promoted to Red Bull in 2026, former Jordan F1 technical director Gary Anderson has shared what combination of drivers he would like to see on the grid next year.

Gary Anderson wants Liam Lawson at Red Bull and two new drivers at Racing Bulls in 2026

Anderson was speaking on The Race F1 Tech Show and asked about the combination of drivers he would like to see at Red Bull and Racing Bulls next year. He explained: “I would love to see Liam Lawson getting another crack at it because I think those two races he had a crack at it were not a good situation for him.

“The car wasn’t good. He had problems. I don’t think his end result was justified in getting the heave-hoe.

“But I think, as I say, I would go for Liam Lawson moving in to become Max Verstappen’s partner, give him another chance, and put in a couple of drivers from F2.

“Now, we’ve heard a lot about Alex Dunne being associated with Red Bull, potentially. He’s left his McLaren contract, which was a bit strange.

“If he did that without having somewhere else to go, it’s a bit odd. But he’s a competent driver; he’s shown this year that he’s a very competent driver.

“So I would put him in one of the Racing Bulls, along with the other F2 guy that they’re running at the moment [Arvid Lindblad].”

Will Arvid Lindblad and Alex Dunne be driving for Racing Bulls during the 2026 F1 season?

Arvid Lindblad and Alex Dunne are two of the most exciting talents to emerge from this year’s Formula 2 campaign.

Lindblad is currently backed by Red Bull, and with his current F2 team Campos already confirming their 2026 line-up without the British teenager, it looks like his fate may already be sealed.

Helmut Marko has been impressed by Lindblad, even if the last few rounds of the Formula 2 championship have been tricky for the 18-year-old.

Dunne was previously linked with Red Bull after ending his relationship with McLaren, but any move to sign the Irishman appears to have stalled.

It’s yet to be seen where he might end up next, but it’s very unlikely that he’ll be denying Lawson, Hadjar or Tsunoda a place on the grid with Racing Bulls in 2026.
