Alpine boss Flavio Briatore has been urged to send Fernando Alonso to ‘Le Mans’ instead of signing him for the team.
Alonso, 44, is one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of his generation, having won two world titles in 2005 and 2006 when he was driving for Renault.
Aside from Renault, the Spaniard has also driven for teams like Minardi, McLaren and Ferrari.
Currently, despite approaching his late 40s, Alonso is still going strong in F1 but has been left frustrated by Aston Martin’s current struggles.
Recently, it was reported during the Barcelona Grand Prix weekend that Alonso could join Alpine in 2027.
Moving back to Alpine would see Alonso reunite with Briatore. The pair worked together when the Spaniard won his two F1 world titles.
Fernando Alonso is being linked with a shock return to Alpine 😳 Would you like to see a reunion in 2027?
Flavio Briatore told to send Fernando Alonso to ‘Le Mans’
Speaking on the latest RacingNews365 NL podcast, Dutch racing driver Mike Hezemans urged Alpine to snub Alonso and let him go to Le Mans.
The Dutchman also added that Alpine should be looking to bring in Paul Aron, who produced an impressive display when he took part in FP1 for Audi.
Hezemans said: “You better put a new driver in there. I think it’s just better. Look at FP1, Audi, that Aron? Really, very, very, very impressive.
“I get that maybe a lot of people drove on the soft tyres, but you still have to drive that time. It is always the case.
“It is not the case that an Audi was running on lower fuels than other people. Because they put the same amount of gasoline in on both sides, because they want to know what he does too, you know? So, he just did a super, super good job. I think I found that really, really impressive.
“I’m telling you again, over 40 years old, with all due respect, you only get slower; you’re simply a different generation.
“Enough is enough. Let him become a team manager at Aston Martin or whatever, Le Mans? You’re just getting too old.”
What changes would you make to Fernando Alonso’s perfect F1 driver?

In Barcelona, Alonso hinted that it could be his last outing around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with the track not being used until 2028.
Alonso was forced to retire during the race. Speaking afterwards, he said, as per Planet F1: “The fans were incredible the whole weekend. That was very, very nice feeling. Very emotional weekend for me, maybe the last in Barcelona.
“So, yeah, out the car, I enjoy it every minute, but unfortunately we didn’t give to them what they deserve in terms of results. Hopefully our second part of the year we can improve the situation.”
