Ferrari are still pushing to make their 2025 Formula 1 car better and it appears to be working after a successful round of upgrades last time out at the Austrian Grand Prix.
As a result, both drivers were able to finish inside the top four and left the track in a far more positive mind space about their prospects.
Finally back up to second in the constructors’ championship, and it looks like Ferrari will at least be able to challenge Mercedes for the honour all the way until Abu Dhabi.
It’s a promising sign for Lewis Hamilton as he approaches his home race still hunting for a first podium with the Scuderia. Could the British Grand Prix be the key to that?
Rival F1 engineers know what has wrecked Hamilton’s season and believe it’s down to the ‘six months of darkness’ that the team suffered last year, following Enrico Cardile’s departure as technical director.
But now they’re back on track again, and Hamilton’s body language suggests a Ferrari breakthrough has been made.

Ferrari expect ‘final breakthrough’ with Belgian Grand Prix upgrade that Lewis Hamilton will love
Hamilton had been ‘suffering’ for months with the understeering characteristics of his car, which is part and parcel of learning a new machine following his Mercedes departure.
By equalling his best result in Austria and remaining close to teammate Charles Leclerc for the majority of the race, there is a sign that their floor upgrade worked, even in quite hot conditions.
However, Silverstone is a different challenge. Ferrari have identified Hamilton’s biggest problem and are now racing to find a solution.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, part of that solution will come at the Belgian Grand Prix with a new rear suspension, aimed at improving some of the car’s characteristics under braking. It’s expected to be their ‘final breakthrough’.
If the upgrade turns out to be effective, then they could disturb the McLaren battle at the front, which didn’t seem likely at all just a few races ago.
Why Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have given Ferrari a problem for 2026
We’re 11 races into the Formula 1 season and already it’s clear to see who is most comfortable at the majority of teams.
At Ferrari, it’s no coincidence that it is the man who is in his seventh season with them, and has been responsible for much of their car development direction and feedback.
Hamilton and Leclerc have given Ferrari a headache for 2026 because they have very different driving styles. It makes designing a car that they will both like very difficult.
Instead, the focus should be on designing one that can help end what is expected to be an 18-year title drought, with work already having started on the 2026 F1 regulations.
