Fernando Alonso’s decision for 2027 could reveal whether Adrian Newey can turn Aston Martin around

According to The Race, when speaking to members of Aston Martin’s Silverstone factory, Adrian Newey revealed he had been spending a lot of time with Fernando Alonso, looping him into the plans for 2027.

Newey claimed that he wanted to keep both drivers in the loop, especially given how frustrated things have been for them.

“[I’m] going through with both Fernando and Lance exactly what we’re doing, what we have planned with the upgrade package, what we have planned through going into the ’27 season”.

“Whilst it might not seem like it, we are very much listening to their comments and trying to act upon it.”

“If people don’t feel as if they’re being heard, then they of course get very frustrated; it’s human reactions.”

“So perhaps we’ve been guilty of not spending enough time with Fernando and Lance, Jak [Crawford, reserve driver] here, kind of going through exactly what we are trying to achieve with the upgrade package.”

Fernando Alonso has a tough decision to make over his future

Alonso has been aggressively pushing for improvement behind the scenes at Aston Martin, wanting to see the team improve.

By his own admission, Alonso will make a decision about his future after the summer break, wanting to see how the first phase of Adrian Newey’s upgrade plans improves the car.

Should there not be any improvement, Alonso will likely walk away, with links suggesting he might accept a return to Alpine.

Aston Martin desperately want to keep Alonso, but his mind might be made up once things are over after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
