F1 fans were treated to arguably the most exciting race of the season so far at the British Grand Prix last weekend. Lewis Hamilton won to end a victory drought stretching back two and a half years.
Mercedes teammate George Russell had started on pole position and was in control until the rain arrived. Hamilton used Russell as a reference at each corner of a slippy circuit, and was able to get past him.
The two McLarens then came through to demote the polesitter down to fourth. Hamilton couldn’t believe how fast Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were in the wet conditions.
It was a McLaren one-two by the time the bulk of the field finally pitted for intermediates, but Piastri fell to fifth thanks to the team’s reluctance to double-stack. Norris led from Hamilton and Max Verstappen after Russell retired with a water system issue.
The frontrunners knew that the race would be decided in the transition back to slick tyres. Hamilton was able to nurse his set of softs to the finish, while Norris’ fell apart to open the door for Verstappen to grab second.
The race was a test of the drivers’ feel and their strategic cooperation with their teams. A month on from another wet/dry thriller in Canada, the sport had its sixth different winner of the campaign.
F1 fans love new onboard camera angle for Lance Stroll
As is customary, the official Formula 1 YouTube channel posted a compilation of the weekend’s top 10 onboards. Hamilton’s post-race celebrations featured, as did the McLaren drivers’ moves on their Mercedes rivals.
But what really caught the eye of F1 fans was the new camera angle on Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin. The camera appears to be positioned higher and further back on the car, which viewers like @zexywanderer say offers a more accurate sense of speed.

@krithikrockz7612 called the footage ‘awesome’, while @swamin764 said the ‘great’ tweak should be implemented on each of the 20 cars. Likewise, @massimilianolettieri8524 wants ‘all cameras’ to be like that from the Hungarian GP onwards.
@4rdF1Hunny feels it should be the new ‘standard going forward’, a sentiment echoed by @bibhushanrajthala. F1 has been experimenting with multiple fresh angles in recent times, including a new rear-facing camera.
Red Bull mocked Stroll after Aston Martin contract extension
F1’s video showed Stroll battling with Nico Hulkenberg on lap 19, with the German executing a fine move around the outside of Copse. The Haas driver would finish sixth, with Stroll seventh.
This was the Aston Martin driver’s joint-second-best result of the season, matching his showing in Montreal. He set an early benchmark by coming home P6 in Australia.
For the third race in a row, including the Sprint in Austria, he beat two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. Davide Valsecchi believes Stroll is closing the gap to Alonso, who will remain his teammate for the next couple of years.
That’s because both drivers have signed new contracts in recent months. Red Bull mocked Stroll after he penned his extension, hinting that it was inevitable in light of his father Lawrence owning the team.
