Sergio Perez is potentially facing his final races as a Red Bull Formula 1 driver if his form does not improve in the second half of the season.

The Mexican is technically contracted with the team through 2025, but Perez has not met the performance clauses specified in his contract that dictate how close he must be to Max Verstappen.

This has impacted Red Bull’s standing in the Constructors’ Championship as they are now just 42 points ahead of McLaren, who have scored the most points of any time in the last eight races.

The team has given Sergio Perez the next few races to improve his form, partially because Red Bull felt there was no viable replacements who could do a good job, but mostly as they feel he could return to his form at the start of the season by reverting to an older specification car.

Beyond the end of this season, there is talk that Perez could be replaced by another driver regardless of whether he finishes more regualrly in the top five. Eddie Jordan made a prediction of who that could be when asked on the Formula for Success podcast.

Eddie Jordan predicts second Red Bull driver for 2025

Red Bull has been ruthless with drivers in its history having cut short the careers of Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon when they went up against Verstappen and underperformed.

Given Perez is also on a downward spiral, there is a good chance that he might not be Red Bull’s first option for the seat in 2025.

The team has a healthy pool of drivers it could choose to replace him with, and Jordan predicted who will get the seat when discussing it with former Red Bull driver David Coulthard.

DC: “Now the crystal ball part, I’m going to ask you some quickfire questions about the future of Formula One. So, EJ, will Max still be at Red Bull next year?”
EJ: “Yes, for 25.
DC: “Who will be his teammate?
EJ: “Liam Lawson. Did a great job at Toro Rosso.
DC: “Liam Lawson, remember those words, guys. There you go.”

Drivers who could do a better job than Sergio Perez

Given his poor form, there are several drivers who have emerged that could do a better job than the Mexican in the short term.

Journalist Mark Hughes believes former Red Bull drivers Albon or Perez could be better options for the team, given the latter has shown impressive form at Williams in the last few years as their sole points scorer.

Three other drivers were also named by journalist Marc Surer including Carlos Sainz, who Red Bull reportedly did not want to consider despite him being one of the most lucrative drivers on the market, and Fernando Alonso by journalist Marc Surer.

Also mentioned was Nico Hulkenberg who has gained a reputation for being one of the best qualifiers on the grid by his former engineer.
